potential 55w HID problems?

I read that unless the 55w HIDs have an additional splice into the battery, it may be too strained on startup and slowly burn your wiring harness? Has anybody had any problems with 55w HIDs that are straight plug and play? thanks

 

Im running 55w ballasts and D2S bulbs no additional "splice" and they run perfect. If you buy the PnP it comes with a wiring harness that runs off the battery.

 

35w P&P don't blind other drivers well enough?

 

I have a buddy that has 55W PnP in his FJ....holy hell they are a bright blue mess and super bright with tons of scatter.

I have 55w in a SK2 projector so its a lot less harsh on ppl then just PnP....

The issue with HID is the startup inrush current.
The operating wattage is 35 or 55, which is the same or lower than halogens, but they draw more while the ballasts are firing.
If you are running a circuit designed for 100w halogens, you will have no problem at all with the 55w HID.
Even if the system can't handle a continuous 100w, the whole basis is that current = heat.
A brief spike, if it doesn't cause immediate damage, won't hurt anything because there is time to cool down before it happens again.

As far as a relay harness... you should be running a relay harness on any aux lighting. Keep the high-current circuit under the hood and only run simple 5a switching circuits to the dash.
