Bed Rack Lights

So i made a bed rack this past week and would like some suggestions on what lights to mount to it. Im not looking to spend $100's on top notch lights but something that will be sufficient out to 20-30 feet. Mainly for backing up my boat or light for cleaning deer at night. I'm guessing a flood style light or a LED light would work best. I have read that the 6LZ LED Compact Light Bar works well
For you guys who have lights on a rack, did you run the wires through the tubing down to the bed and into the cab?

 

Bump. No one has a lights installed on their bed accessories or bumpers?

 

I have a bar but no lights yet. I plan on installing a set of duallies so I can change filters as needed. A bit over kill but hey, why not

 

I've seen some trucks on here that have bed lights but they are the regular square kind of cheap ones you can buy at Wal-mart. I'd say since you built a nice custom rack to stick with some nice stuff and go LED or something along those lines to make it all look uniformed and pretty haha.

 

Thats the mindset i am going with too but im also trying not to over spend. I am getting it sandblasted for free through work along with $15 for zinc chromate primer and some cheap herculiner from an auto store will save up a little for some nice lights. I also bought some air springs so that dropped my budget for my lights

 

Yeah I see what your saying and I'm sure there is something out there that isnt to expensive that will work for you just have to search and keep your eyes peeled.

 

Yeah, i just wanted some 1st hand feedback because i dont want to buy some lights and then i cant see past my 20' boat when going into the back yeard.

 

I have owned a few sets of cheap lights.

I currently have a $40 set of slim fog lights from Kragen Auto under my rear bumper. They are fine for backing up in dark areas, but I would not want to use them to see past a 20 foot boat and trailer.

I have also owned standard "PAR 36" 35W sealed beam lights commonly available in Harbor Freight, NAPA, and truck dealerships. They come in a rubber housing and are about 4 inches in diameter. The ones I had were "tractor beam" pattern. They were a little bit too diffused to be useful past 20 feet IMHO. There are many different sealed beams that will fit into a PAR 36 housing, including 100W aircraft landing lights. Never did try those, but I am told they throw light all over the place.

They would satisfy the 20 foot requirement. They are referred to as a driving light pattern, but there were terrible at any kind of speed, didn't project far enough out to be of any more use than my high beams. But at low speeds they were fine, that's why they got moved to the rear bumper.

Try to get a plastic housing. Anything metal in the "inexpensive" range is going to have cheap paint and chrome on it, and will rust fast.

 

The 6LZ would be a perfect fit since it will match the low profile of the rack, light up the area you need and won't break the bank.

I have 3 of them on my basket and they throw some good light.



To give you an idea how big they are, the basket is 5.5 in. tall
