Are you not running a bump stop or a limit strap?

He's got King hydro bumps hiding behind the shock.

I see it now  Is the coil suppose to compress all the way down like that?

Stronger materials make up for poor engineering of a cage. Proper design and engineering takes into consideration the materials being used.

That being said I have seen many cages out of pipe that I would rather have protect me than a lot of the DOM cages I have seen. Just because you can buy DOM doesn't mean you can properly design and build a cage.

The bottom line is its about the design and engineering of a cage, not the material.

Now if it needs to get tagged, that's a different story, but its still only required because "someone said so" and doesn't mean it couldn't be just as strong at less expensive price. Weight savings does come into play as well when using stronger materials.

But the people who say you have to use one or the other really don't fully understand engineering principles.

Was wondering about the traps too.

And I it does seem the coils are fully compressing, perhaps bumps need to come down a bit, but sometimes its hard telling on videos.

Funny how its always the keyboard jockies who always think they know better than the actual engineers.

I get what you are saying completely, anyone build I balsa wood bridge in middleschool/highschool before? Design with consideration of materials and proven welds equals win.

Engineering involves proper material selection for the loading anticipated. It also involves material availability, and material cost, space and time constraints, etc.

Taking everything into account an engineer makes the decisions on what to use where, when not governed by code. Codes can even be silly sometimes, but you have to follow the rules.

Just like tagging a cage, if you want to race in their events, you must follow their rules. That doesn't mean their rules are the only right way.

If you're not getting it tagged requiring DOM or chromo you're wasting money using more expensive materials.

I did in 5th grade. My bridge weighed 23 grams and held 180 lbs of force, LOL.

100% HREW Tubing that I built in 2005 when I barely knew anything. And before all the shit talk starts about rolling while going in a straight line, it was before I had upgraded the power steering and we hit a hole just the right way that it ripped the wheel out of my hand, nothing I could do after that. It was at 65 mph.

    ...too much shit to list.
    Keyboard jockey? Wow...
So let me ask you, did you help build one of Dan Vance's trucks? Perhaps you participated in backhalfing Bozen's? Perhaps you have 20 something welding certificates as well?
Maybe get your facts strait before you turn into a dick. Landon probably caged his first truck when you were still in diapers.

Nice vid. Thanks for proving you don't have to have a DOM cage to have a functional cage. Its all about the proper design and triangulation, and then of course execution :p

But the question is: knowing what you know now would you build a cage out of HREW?

I prefer DOM and that's what I recommend to most customers because the cost difference is negligible IMO. The DOM vs 4130 debate generally has the most uninformed arguments. I'm not against mild steel, I just feel the cost difference is small compared to what you gain with DOM. But there are several trucks that have been very successful with mild steel cages

I have shown people metalurgy facts that 4130 is marginally stronger and they still want to argue with me. And they don't even know that there is normalized and annealed 4130. Simply put DOM is strong and easy to work with at a fair price point.

Hey Landon, what ever happened to this???

Okay, just an update for anyone that saw my past thread on my situation with that group. Landon is absolutely MIA. Can't get a hold of him at all. Mike has stepped up to the plate though and is paying me back out of his own pocket. I have actually physically recieved a check from him and am promised two more to follow over the next month or so to complete the payment... Although I honestly feel it sucks that he's having to do this as he was just an "employee" at Vendetta I do appreciate it. He said he'd figure out how to get re-embursed from Landon or whoever.

So anyways I wanted to put it in public that Mike has stepped up to the plate without hesitation once I contacted him directly to make things right.

    Thanks Mike...

(Oh and I'm not really looking for discussion on this thread or anything. Just was posting an update for those that had read my past thread a month back or whatever...)
