Long Travel BS Thread

Look at my build thread; I lose nearly zero bed space to the bed cage. It's the rear half, that I put in as part of a roof top tent rack/base, where I start to lose bed space.

Without the gas can holder the only bed space your are losing up front is the diameter of the tube.

 

Looks beautiful. Might have to crack open auto cad and draw something up, been a few years since I used it last. Thanks for the pic / info. I will pm you back about the bumps.

No, the allen head bleed screws that are screwed into the piston inside the shock body.

 

can i run 5/8 bolts with tc shackles? before i drill out the shackle i want to know if a socket is gonna fit in there lol. the leafs are set up to run 5/8


the holes are a little ovaled so id like to run the 5/8

 

You can get bolts with small head sizes on them, so yes. ARP makes some nifty 12 point bolts, as well as F-911 with a large shank and small head. (That's what she said) Mine are 1/2" bolts with 3/4" hex heads on them and a normal wall thickness snap on socket is a little tight.

 

I've only taken coil overs apart, yet to pull apart my bypasses...I'm clue less, but guess I'll find out when I change the stack

 

Pretty much the same. The piston is between the rebound and compression shims so you can do it al in the same step.

I need to get a real plug in welder one of these days. This Readywelder draws so many amps if you weld continuous for an hour or so it melts the terminals out of an Optima!

Bailing wire can get you back to camp for the necessary repairs

They are pretty handy. I bought mine used about seven years ago, and welded my cage, sliders, several bumpers, etc with it. I've never had a single weld fail, and no issues with the welder other than the battery thing posted above. I think that is my fault though, I was being pretty hard on it and welded continuously for about an hour.

I've never seen an Optima do that before. That axle is beef!!

 

I'm running 04 Tacoma front disk brakes on it. Waiting on the UPS dude to bring hoses with banjo fittings and the rest of the stuff to plumb in a wilwood proportioning valve. I hope it works... The FJ and 4runner have disks in the rear, if the prop valve doesn't work I might try to find out what's different between the taco and FJ brake systems and swap that part in... I would imagine the master cylinder is different but don't know.

 

Yeah. And I did it in an RV park in the middle of the desert. No garage, no concrete floor, no shade. Used a cordless drill to power a notcher, grinder with some cut off wheels, and a $400 tube bender to do it. Under a grand worth of tools. Hillbilly fab is my specialty.



I also didn't know how to weld when I started this build. I just started welding and learned along the way. Might not look to pretty, but it's a strong joint.
