Well it became painfully obvious that the steering rack on the 2nd gens are trash this weekend.

Blang blew his while in the dirt.

Joel was leaking ps fluid and had a loud whine.

I left Lucerne early due to a whine in my rack. About 20 miles form my house my power steering went out and I had to muscle it home.

Someone needs to make a upgraded rack stat! Or a conversion to a box :(

Just a thought, with fox 2.5 coilovers can I mount them to the swayaway mounting plate? The top mount would fit according to my measurements, or is it best to get a set of fox mounting plates from kartek?

yeahhhh that sucked haha. i got out and fluid was shooting out of the rack. Thankfully joel brought an extra and i was back going after a rack swap.
with joels, the pressure line either going into the rack or the return line from the rack was just loose causing it to leak realllly bad. Tightened them back up along with topping off and he was back

My buddy was hit me up a few weeks ago to help come up with a slider to take the stress off the rack. Surprised no one did it yet for your trucks since all you guys love 35" and low backspacing.

Yeah this would be a great step forward!

I will convert over to a Howe sometime, but would love a cheaper solution in the meantime.

Those 2nd Gen Racks are junk. I have seen so many of those things break and leak over the years. They do ok in sand but Hard dirt is not their friend. But a Howe or other upgrades is Mucho Dinero $$$

Yeah they are junk. Lessel said that Dirt Designs was looking into making a Howe upgrade for the 2nd Gens. Would love something come in under $2000 that solves this issue for good.

Any advice on removing the upper spindle bolts?? It wasn't this hard with my midtravel upper arms. I've soaked in pb blaster for a bit and even my impact driver isn't getting it off. Should I get a nut splitter? I tried heating the bottom nut a bit

EDIT: more heat finally did the trick

If any of you have ever re-valved dirt bike suspension you will understand that our truck shocks are a piece of cake compared to dirt bikes. The overall diameter is much smaller but holy shims! My forks base valving will have:

    (7) .15 x 30
    (2) .10 x 28
    (2) .10 x 26
    (2) .10 x 24
    (2) .10 x 22
    (2) .10 x 20
    (2) .10 x 18
    (2) .10 x 16

Modern twin chamber forks have a damper rod assembly that holds a valve stack (mid valve) and when the load gets to a certain point it forces the dampening to the base valve which has a separate high and low speed. And it also has compression and rebound adjusters that control bypass through the hollow center of the damper rod. Pretty neat, but not easy to tune lol :)

Wonder if PSC makes anything you can use on a 2nd gen. I'll call them up tomorrow to hear their 2 cents on the subject.

EDIT: Is it possible to take a ram and mount it where the rack goes, and just custom fab some tie rod ends with heim joints? You'd also need a higher volume pump and a bigger reservoir. A hydraulic assist ram steering setup would be sweet.
