When I spoke to Jeff Howe the other week he addressed the specific cause to the weak R&P on our trucks as being that the steering connects straight to the rack which puts too much pressure on seals and such causing excessive wear and prone to breaking prematurely. His suggestions to me were as follows

"- Relocate the Stock Rack by building a substructure that the Tie Rods then can hook to, using the Stock Rack to operate it.
    - Mounting a Steering Box inside of the frame and building cross over Steering."

Just some food for thought from a guys that knows more than us

Gotta cut a weld in a whole new fire wall for 35s.

    I agree if your a 4banger don't go 35s, but a v6 is fine. You'll need 5.29s Id suggest but 4.88s are fine.

I'd also stay 15s just cause more tire and cheaper tires ha

You'll need to retain a decent offset with wheels caus while yes a lt kit pushes the wheels out the relationship with the wheel hub and ball joints is the same. So as most 35s are 12.5" wide you'll need 3.75" or 4" bs wheels.

Really if your on a budget. 33s are the place to start. Cheaper tires and you don't have to regear so overall cost is 2k cheaper about

    I've got a 2.7L 4cylnder. I have a tundra rear axle I plan on running that's regeared to 4.88.

What do you dislike about dd the bead locks? I mainly don't wanna roll my tire off the rim my first time out or something. Haha.

Beadlocks are impossible to balance. They are also really heavy. When you start smashing rims like me and monkeyproof, then consider upgrading. It's harder to do than it looks. (these were Mickey Thompson classic locks, hit a basketball sized rock at speed and destroyed two of them)

mine i had to do different on each side just because the way fittings were. just depends on the fitting.

most people do them along the frame towards the front of the truck

Incorrect. The tt racks are NOT full hydro. They still have steering linkage that goes into them.

Agreed. They do appear to be full hydro, but it's a normal rack and pinion with a monster 3" hydro ASSIST ram. Even if you lose hydraulics, you can still steer a TT.

ahh ok, to bad i couldn't stuff one of those up front. oh well im going to get rid of my allpro +2 kit and go with either mcm fab or dirtkings LT kit, with hiemed upper and solid mount the lowers, then gusset everything up front. after all that is done i will start talking with my local fab shop about making a swinger setup with a steering box.

What is everyones thoughts on inverted shackle vs. A long shackle mounted above the frame? Which works better?

Howe or PSC needs to come up with something like this but for the tacoma.

Im getting sick of stock racks self-destructing after any sort of off-road use. :smash:
