I never got a picture of it because I didn't have a camera phone when I was going to school, but you should have sen the one we had in my auto body class. It was almost twice that size. It had to be put into a seperate room that was sound deadend and it was still loud as shit. We had 2 full size SATA down draft paint booths, at least 20 air hook ups, pnuematic lifts and EVERYTHING.

Just think if you got the 2 stage it would of been even quieter :D I'm thinking my new one is going to be kinda loud. The damn motor is bigger then the 3.4 in my truck

I've got a friend who wants to buy a regular MIG welder and is wondering how much the gas tanks run and how much costs to get one filled. 75%/25% mix.

How long are your tanks lasting you and what size are they?

I'm new to welding and I weld with flux core, so I'm no help to him on this one.

Here's a handy table of sizes.

The answer to both questions is "it depends". Depends on the size and where you buy the bottle (or fill it) and where you fill it.

I have a 125cf bottle. An 80 would have worked as well. I paid about $40 the last time to fill it.

Funny how tools and projects always add up to pretty big money

    Compressor - $350
    Wiring stuff - $120
Air hose reel with hose - $65
    Inline air filter - $25
    Air regulator - $30
    Ball Valve - $5
    Random fittings - $40
Hockey Puck Rubber Feet - $25

    Total = $660

Any engineers that would be able to recommend the right plastic sheeting for me to make some wheel well mud guards with? I think 3/16 is about how thick I need it to be but want it to be flexible enough to bend to the shape of the wheel well with minimal heating. I can't make any since of all the plastic names I am finding. I found one person that used some UHMWPE for the same application on a Subaru but the properties didn't sound like it was very easy to manipulate.

Yes, I used some ABS from Mcmaster-Carr to make mine, see if I can find a photo. http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/119/3570/=l1t53g

I've seen JD's mud flap ones and a couple other people using plastic, I thought I had even seen someone that used sheet aluminum (but I think that would be to much of a pain forming it). Isn't ABS and HDPE really rigid though? or as long as it is 3/16 it will flex enough?

the abs is machinable quality, plus its 1/8" thick so it will flex/bend easily

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
We run T tanks (Praxair's 300+ tank) they are 381cft and they last quite a wile about 2 to 3 44lb rolls of wire per tank. An 80cft would be a good tank to start with It would last you quite a wile just hobby welding.
