Temporary Rear Suspension

Just curious, since i see so many people do it... Get the LT front and wait quite some time before getting a bed cage done.

What has everyone used as a temporary rear set up?

Looking for some good suggestions as well, because i plan on doing the same soon.

 

I ran the Defined Engineering SUA kit with stock location Bilstein 5100's and was still able to moderately run the truck offroad. It all depends on what rear set up you plan on using I guess.

What do you have in mind?

There's no real "temporary" set up. That's just a waste of money lol

 

im in the same boat, but ive decided on AAL and 5100 just to bottom out less often.

 

A big reason i DONT want to do the rear first is because im in hawaii with no reason to really use the LT... the only reason im getting it is because eventually i will move back home to california. so the LT performance wont be an issue as im just trying to build my truck up for when i do move back. And so, because the front end will be easier [and i havnt really found a fab shop for the rear yet] i think im going to go with that.

likely going camburg since the 4wheelparts store on island can help me out with shipping on everything.

 

you should still build the rear first. i know it doesn't look as cool and it doesn't pull in the bitches like a killer wide gnar gnar sick front end but it's the smarter route to go. take it from people that have already crossd over to the dark side

you're going to run into the problem once you do get back to CA and still only have a built front end. also, there is a hell of a lot more to PROPERLY building the front end that simply buying a kit and bolting that bitch up. you need to gusset the shit out of everything (this means welding) otherwise it wont take long for you to break something.

defined and giant both offer nearly 100% bolt on rear LT kits for the 05+ tacomas and there's less welding reinforcement that needs to take place on the back half of the truck...

 

i suggest listening to matt, he has given me tons of advice with me joining the scene also.

I am def looking at the giant rear Lt... however... it will cost a crap ton to ship here without the help of a local store.

 

Save your money and wait until you are back in California, then lt the front and back at the same time. You already said it yourself that lt performance is not needed in Hawaii. So why not just wait it out.

Just collect parts! The owner of the truck above collected all those parts before putting on his truck and did everything at once

I suggest installing a race radio/modded ham radio or investing in a GPS. Buy some fox shocks from 4wheel in HI. Open a savings account etc. Just offroad with the truck stock and when you get to Cali just start building with all the parts youve collected

 

Definitely might save now, but still have to spend a little. My stock suspension feels like crap and it's time to replace it, which is the biggest reason i would like to do this.

So, maybe any more suggestions would be nice. It's mostly my tax return, so I'm going to be very likely to spend it.

Maybe i'll get a supercharger.. HAHAHA

On a serious note. I may do the rear first, there are thing's i would like to do to the bed that would require a lot of work. While keeping it usable, that is.

I will likely go with the Giant rear... is the picture of the bed cage posted on there site the bolt on cage? If it is then it is very likely i will go that route, it looks pretty good.

 

They do have a very nice looking bolt in bed cage, at a very not so nice looking price. Can't wait to see the turn out.

 

If you want to get the kit and install it, its your choice. A lot of us have done it that way and although I warn against following in my footsteps, I say if you wanna buy it just buy it. Its your truck

Just be aware that youll be a bucking bronco as soon as you hit an uneven whoop. Make sure you check your motormounts and buy TC's aligment cam gussets.

We sound like downers, but in reality, youll have fun with a truck that has LT front and stock Rear. Just dont expect too much out of it. Have fun!

 

I have about given up on this concept. I hardly ever get bitches with my gnar gnar front end! Mostly just random dudes looking under my fenders. It's just annoying.

 

What I love is the guys that walk up and say "how much is a lift kit like that"
