LT the Rear or Just Bolt in Deavers and Good Shock???

So I was thinking of getting a Deaver 10 -pack and some Icon 2.5 rear shocks to complete my mid-travel set up. Some time down the line I will do a Long travel in the front. Should I just do A SUA kit like Giant Motorsports and call it day...I have a dirtbike and I like their set up because I can still use the bed and throw my bike in the back and ride.

Thoughts to the LT guys?

Rear lt more important than front for go fast terrain. Having a dirtbike in back with lt is okay but may accelerate spring wear.

i would recommend the defined engineering stage 1 kit with a little better shock. it will get you started with the proper leafpack for the truck from word 1 . then when you go lt up front you already have the foundation for building a lt rear. just add longer shocks and air bumps and your set . with a dirtbike and mild offroading you will kill the j66 pack in no time. my sua leafpack will last years without a major service.

^^^ I've seen your kit, it has custom Deavers, what are so special about them? I was also think about the J66 with air bags.

Depends on what you want to do? if your hauling, yes spring wear will be an issue, if youre only wanting to go fast I'd go with the Defined SUA kit.

If youre truely only wanting to stick with Mid-travel id have Doug(4wd) build you a set of his OMD's based off of your stock springs. Yes they work, and well. After my bad experience with Deavers I will never touch their products again.

Right, that is what I am afraid of...the spring wear with having weight in the bed.

what sets them apart is keeping arch in the spring and the springs do not go into negative arch ,there by making them last longer . thers a few other things about my springpacks that make it unique but thats for me to know and the consumer to enjoy. i would worry more about wear with a SOA leafpack than SUA.
the defined kit is a perfect match for any 2nd gen tacoma no matter what the off road discipline is . its what toyota should have put in the truck from the get go. i have 3 years of hard abuse on my prototype springs with nothing other than visual inspections. my springs in the championship winning stock mini tacoma has logged thousands of miles with no other maintenance other than visuals as well. if thats not a quality , long lasting spring i dont know what is!

Given what you are seeking and your location, do a search here for "4WD"s thread on "refurbishing leaf springs". You will find a wealth of information and "4WD", Doug can build you a set of awesome springs at very nice price.

Do I need to give him a set of springs? I cant be down at all as the truck is my DD. Yeah that has been suggested from someone above.

I am still not sold on the Defined kit...nothing against them I am sure they have a good product but still not sold on the "custom" Deaver spring...that will will hold up to weight in the bed...

i have nothing else , besides you coming by and me showing you why going sua is the route you should go and why an SUA leafpack is better than any company's bolt in SOA pack. if your interested let me know.

one last question. if you dont trust defined's custom deaver pack then how is it that you trust the deaver 10-pack or the giant 64 kit ( leafpack also a deaver product) ? dmz springs are also made by deaver as well as everybody running an f55, f67 and h70 packs...

Deaver Customs are made in the same shop as the production springs. If you want a true custom spring then have national Spring in El-Cajon build you a set, but be prepared for a huge bite in the wallet.

^^^I dont trust anyones. I am doing homework and its coming up pretty bad.

While springs aren't perfect, custom built is the best way to go compared of "off the shelf". Not trying to convince you either way but this is how I see it.........

Custom can be built to the specs of your truck, weight, what ride height you want and use. SUA in general will have a higher spring rate and more arch, which gives more up travel without going into negative arch (that's what makes springs sag and I've gone through 2 packs already). If I'm not mistaken Defined also has a heavier duty spring for more weight which adds a heavier aal to the pack. I would rather trust a guy that has put the springs through more abuse than I will and would rather take his word over marketing descriptions on websites.....he's got a reputation in this business to up hold and has gone above and beyond in the Toyota market and here at TW!

On a side note, AP expos with a 2.5" shock is another good option if you stay SOA as they are built to hold 300-500lbs and keep 3" rear lift. Plenty of guys like these springs and put them to the test!

I have been looking at the AP Expos, the key to this I dont want a 3" lift. I have also been debating the Dakars and taking out one of the overload springs to reduce the lift, I saw a Tacoma the other day in a parking lot with a OME lifts with Dakars in the rear.

Thanks. I think I am just going to go with a custom set of spring from national. They are priced just as much as Deavers and I dont have to use ,y current springs and have someone build me a pair.

id go with defined.

what other information are you wanting on the custom pack? he has already told you everything... he cant give you all the secrets. off the shelf deavers sag like a mad man, pretty quick.

I will be running Dakars with King shocks with the compression adjusters on my truck, with TC lt up front and a coil over only. once everything gets to me i can report back on my thoughts.

running with the dakars since 1)already on the truck 2) need/want the under axle clearance 3) i will be pulling an expedition style camp trailer a lot.
