Anyone rebuilt Long Travel Coilovers?

    I need to rebuild my coilovers... The remote reservoir has a small leak where the hose connects to the remote reservoir.

    I bought the seal Coilover rebuild kit with remote reservoir and am planning on doing it myself.

    I'm looking for ways to remove the Coil/Spring safely. <-- My main concern.
    and/or any tips.
    Any special tools I need? I have wrenches and stuff I put the Long Travel kit and suspension in myself.

    Basically I'd really really like not to get hurt :rolleyes: and rebuild them myself.

    What brand of shock?
    For the King / Fox/ Kusters we have done:
    Jack truck up and put on jack stands so that suspension is in full droop,
    Spray coil adjusting nut with penetrant / lube so nut does not gall.
    Measure compressed spring length so you know where to set it at when done.
    Loosen retaining bolt in coil adjusting nut,
    Back off coil adjusting nut until spring is loose
    Remove coil over from truck and rebuild as normal.

    Specialty tools:
    Spanner (depending upon shock)
    Allen wrench
    Schrader removal tool.
    Nitrogen bottle and gauges to recharge.
    Soft jaws for vise and maybe a press to hold shaft.
    Steel scale to measure resvoir piston depth.
    Snap ring tool / picks.
    Teflon tape.
    Shock fluid (we use Lucas synthetic).

    Ah probably should of posted this picture 1st lol.
    I think they are fox 8" coilovers with king 600 springs. Bought them used with my Long Travel kit.

    Wow - not a lot of free thread left. There is a number on the springs, maybe. 300-600-016 or similar. Looking for free length of that spring, that will tell you if there is enough thread left to turn the coil adjuster nut all the way loose.

    3= spring ID
    18 = static (free length)
    600 = rate (600# per inch of compression)

    What is your installed spring length and is there enough thread to unscrew it to 18"?
    If not - you will need to use a spring compressor.

    yeah it's these Springs.

    I just measured everything. The threads on the shock body are a little over 12" the shaft from what I remember was 8" and the spanner nut and spanner lock nut are 1" together(1/2" each). So I'll have the spring at ~19" with the spanner nut at the top. Seems kinda close...

    Those spring compressors make me nervous lol. I don't trust them.
