Hey guys (and galls), so a stealer ship in my area recently put a 2006 trd dclb up for sale. at first glance it appears to be a fully built LT truck from front to back, but I am skeptical. Hopefully with ya'lls help, you can give me some advice on whether it's worth upgrading to.

I am pretty mechanically savvy, and the only thing I pretty much can't do is weld. Or rebuild a tranny. I love my current truck, but I want too be able to push my vehicle further than my current mid travel would allow.

First, my truck: 2007 speedway blue trd DCLB 4wd with complete mid travel, 60k miles. Lots of other little mods, but not important in terms of resale value.

Here is what I can tell so far about this truck.

2006 trd, DCLB 4wd with 97k miles. Total chaos kit up front, with king coilovers and king secondary. Gussetted front spindles. Out back there is what appears to be a deaver 10-pack or similar, with a shackle flip I've never seen before. Kings RR on shock hoops. Glass front and besides. It has straps front and rear. Unknown brand bump stops up front and no bumps on the back.

Under the truck, there is a leak coming from the left side of the steering box, along with an unknown leak on the right front, leaking onto the tire. There are minor scrapes etc here and there underneath. I couldn't immediately see and cracks, etc. And I don't think the hood latches closed.

It's sitting on what I think are 34" goodyears, which were manufactured in early 2013. They are about 60% worn.

I think that covers most things off the top of my head. I took a bunch of pictures for your viewing pleasure.

    They are asking 25k

So what do you guys think? Worth a trade? See any red flags that would make you walk away? It has some small cob webs growing on one of the tires, so it may have been there for longer then I think.

Sorry in advance for any typos. I'm uploading this from my super cool smart phone.

The dealer should fix the leaks before you buy it, looks sweet

Ya, highly doubt this place would fix the leaks. They aren't exactly a 5 star establishment. I haven't looked at my own steering box for reference, but I don't think the leaks look too bad at this point.

    I would build your truck.
I think the miles are too high compared to yours and who knows what dirty little secrets it has.
    You know your trucks history.
    Not into that rear setup.
Most of the work on that truck is bolt on or really simple.
You could get a way nicer older built prerunner for the price.

I'd stick with what you got. If you want to push harder offroad get a RZR. I really wish I would've kept my truck a mild build and spent the rest on a RZR...

The rear end on that truck is far from built. It's still in spring over axle configuration. You're looking at a couple grand in fab and parts to get it up to par with the front end.

If you like having fun offroad and the dunes get a rzr, if you like having a DD that can go offroad and then drive it home build your truck

I do know the history of my truck, very good point. And there is something satisfying about building a truck yourself. Thanks for all the responses!

Looks like that hood and grill need work along with the headlights being in pretty bad shape. Appears to have an air tank in the rear for on-board air or is that going to something else?

No, no air on board from what I can see. It seems to have taken some hard hits up front, that's for sure.

Take the money that the dealership is going to steal from you and invest it in your truck. The one thing that I have learned about dealerships, especially used car only dealerships, is that no matter how hard they try to convince you otherwise, they are making money at your expense. You could save a little every month and have everything that truck has and more by the time you hit the mileage that truck already has. Just my two cents. Good luck...

And just to give something to compare it to, I almost sold my 2013 dclb with 35,000 miles to carmax last month for $25,000.

Call me the dark horse here but I think that thing is pretty well built. Abused? Probably, but not a poor build. A few heims here and there, some paint and a weekend of prep and maybe a few rebuilt shocks and its a very solid truck again.

What makes me say this is the spindle and steering. The spindle gusset is clearly custom built and fully boxed, not just some cheap TC generic. The steering is solid, no cheap extensions, fully heimed and the biggie: double sheered off the spindle. You can tell whoever built it had an idea what they were doing. The rear looks a little under built and the smooth bodies All around need to go but all in all not horrible, add in a DMZ kit and you have yourself a full LT truck for cheaper than trying to build your own.
