Tripod inner Joints on Long Travel?

I'll try to keep it short. I ordered a set of custom axles for my 96 tacoma with long travel and manual locking hubs. I ordered them from the same place I got the kit. They came with the stock Tacoma tripod joint on the inner side. Installed them only to find they come out of socket on full droop. If I limit the travel to about 10 inches they might work but I'm not willing to do this. I assumed they would have came with Tundra inners but they did not. I'm going call the manufactuer on monday when their open but I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever heard of using the stock tripod on the upper joint and it actually working? Any suggestions on where to get good long travel axles with manual hubs? I was thinking of going with RCV but they are $$$.

 

Probably 90% of the LT 2nd gens are running the factory tripod joint on the inner. Works fine if it doesn't slip out. Shaft has to be long enough

 

I would just try running them but that's the problem. One side the joint is mostly out already at ride height. The A-arms seem too long. The alignment cams are pushed out all the way and I still have positive camber and axles that are too short. I hate this kit. Hope they make it right.

you need tundra inner cv joints and tacoma outer cv joints on a tundra shaft.

 

Its a Solo 14in travel kit on a 96. Talked to them today. Good guys. They are going to build me some one off parts to fix all the problems.

It has manual hubs which makes the axles a custom job. Tundra spline is different than the manual hub spline.

 

my truck also has manual hubs.
you are incorrect on the spline count, the only times the counts dont match is if you arent using origional OEM cv axles.

as long as you have a OEM tundra, and an OEM tacoma axels. the splines match up. i have personally done it to 4 axles now.
at least they are taking care of you!

Thats good to know. I have never found any good info from someone who actally has manual hubs.
Here is the truck with steel bars insted of coilovers. They showed up today but now I have to tear it all down again and wait more.

I decided on custom 930s. Little more money but they should work nice.

 

good to know about the axles. i was also told by many people (including TC) that i would need custom axles for my truck (with locking hubs)

yeah seriously! everyone told me they would need to be custom and mike at ORW or something used to make them. so i called him, he said he built them from old OEM cv axles and told me he gaurenteed me it would work.

well i can also now gaurentee it works! have done it a ton of times.
