Hmmm. Any ruff grouse up in your neck of the woods or are the grouse mainly blues that far up? This time of year I am just finishing up hunting phez in SD with the dog and usually between the North Shore and BWCA hunting ruff. At least when deer season finishes up and depending on how deep the snow is. While the Ruffled Grouse Society claims Mn. is the ruff capitol I have heard rumors that it doesn't get any better than Ontario.... It would be worth the trip to me sometime if that is true.

I've seen this 2nd gen a few times around the neighborhood. Parked next to it at Fleet Farm today. Who are you?

I have my OEM roof rack off of my 2006 double cab for sale in the marketplace but I thought I would see if anyone in MN was interested so we could meet up rather than shipping. Asking $150 plus your rubber strips. Can meet in twin cities metro.

Just thought i'd mention that our club will be hosting the, like, 357th annual Open House event at the Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area near Gilbert MN on Saturday May 17th 2014.

Pretty much same layout as last year. Free lunch for participants, guided trail runs, friendly people. COME OUT AND WHEEL.

Check out our terribly out-dated website here: http://nsw4x4.com

We're working on getting the info updated for 2014 but the gist is the same, only the date has changed.

None at the moment. will be changing that soon!! ;)
I live in Park Rapids. Only about 45 mins east of Detroit Lakes on high way 34. There's a lot of nice trails to drive on here in the state forests. I go probably once a week during the summer. Also going out on the frozen lakes and playing in the snow is always a ton of fun. Glad to see I'm not the only tacoma owner in the area.

    Welcome,

I'm in Shoreview, if you ever need a hand with something on the truck, shoot me a PM.

Also, plan on hitting our Open House event (info a few posts up) - its geared towards people new to off-roading with little to no modifications.

Does your club use CB or HAM for communicating on the trails?

CB, though there is one guy that just got his HAM operators license none of us use HAM on the trails.

Looking at the DNR website, most trails are up in the iron range. Are there any trails closer to the metro?

Hey you MN guys. I've got an interview for a job in MN and I'm trying to find info on wheeling out there. Is most of the wheeling in OHV parks, or are there trails that you can do expo trips on? Is there anything up north in Canada?

There are a few 'private' club trails/acreage closer. The Mn Trail Riders (i think is their name) has some trails in River Falls Wi. Then there's RPM4x4 who has Apple Valley Farms over south of Chippewa falls WI.

Both those clubs have a few 'public' events throughout the summer/winter. There's also one or two on the West side of the Twin Cities but i'm blanking on their name right now.

On the Iron Range is where there's the most open/hilly space so, therefore, that's where you'll find better terrain. There are a decent amount of fire roads to explore that will get you to some great views.

Lumpskie, unfortunately, there's nothing quite like Colorado in MN (where you can truly overland/explore for days) But there are plenty of good places to spend a long weekend. I've heard of some heading to South Dakota for trips of that style, i havent been, but hope to some day.
