Well if you are into floating... Great place just south of Joplin off Hwy 71 in Noel Missouri on the Elk River. Great for drinking and relaxing. I recommend staying at Shady Beach, fun little party campground.

Trout fishing isnt too far away at Roaring River State Park.

Good luck finding things to do around there... There is a casino just over the border in Oklahoma, other than that be prepared to spend many hours searching the internet bored out of your mind

Good luck to you! Don't know much about Missouri, so maybe you can fill us all in on what life's like there once you get settled. :)

    Nothing yet, brand new!
Joplin isn't too far from KC. Yeah there is the elk river and niagua river to go on float trips. Those are good times. LOZ isn't that far away from there. Joplin itself I'm not sure about. I hear it's growing a little. Summer is fun down there. Winter, well, mod the Taco.

Contrary to what others post, SW Missouri isn’t all that bad. Combine excellent opportunity for outdoor activities with the very low cost of living and you got yourself an OK place to hang your hat. I’m in Springfield (just East of Joplin/Nevada). If you ever want some hints on places to go or things to see and do, don’t hesitate to contact me.

There are many places to go and many things to see and do all over that area. Lake of the Ozarks, the Missouri state park system, Arkansas (e.g. Eureka Springs), etc. etc.

Sorry I just saw this thread...
    Are you in Joplin yet??
I'm in St Louis, but my son is in school in Fayetteville, AR..
There is tons to do in SW MO and NW Ark..
Great 4wd trails in NW Ark. (I have been thru on a MC)
    Floating, fishing (trout & bass)
I have to admit Joplin is not my favorite MO town (vs. Springfield)
If you have a choice go for Springfield..

    Just my $.02

Hey, where did you end up? Are you still in Nevada?

I hunt over there.. Not much happening, but at least you are closer to KC than you would have been in Joplin.

Man.. Nevada... Did you head over to the Lake of the Ozarks?

Hit Party Cove.. I've never been, but from what I've heard, at least it would be memorable..

I actually got changed one more time and ended up in Osage Beach/Lake Ozark. It's a beautiful place with tons of things to do. Party Cove........oh yeah!

Well of the three choices you had, you certainly made the right one.:D

It may get a little quiet this winter, but you may need to rest up..;)
