I've been thinking alot lately about joining the air force. My cousin went in last year and he tried to get me to enlist with him. I wouldnt do it though because I kept saying to my self " No, I'm just gonna go to college and keep my girlfriend." well school didnt work out for me and I'm not worried about what she thinks anymore, If she loves me like she says she'll deal with it. How did all of y'all who are in the Military know that it was the right thing to do. I know that if I dont make a move Im gonna wake up 40 years old in a job I hate, and life will have passed me by.

Do it man! Air Force is a great idea. Just be smart about it when you get in. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask me man. I joined right out of high school.

but do it on your terms... not the recruiters

find a job you want and wait for it, dont enlist w/ an "open" contract

Man i'm in the same boat thinking about the same thing except I went to a private junior college and it seems like the pharmacy field is just too boring for me.

Don't mean to thread jack but my buddy said I could possibly enlist as an officer since I have my as degree in science. can someone answer that?

x2 best move I could have made. I took a year off after highschool and did absolutly nothing. all my freinds were doing the same thing. I served 4 years and got out. all my freinds are still doing nothing.... but it taught me a lot about life. and I have a sweet government contracting job now:D

they will try and force you into things and tell you that you have to do it like this or that. when you talk to them and something doesnt feel right just leave. ask us and we will steer you straight. and its not too late to change your mind untill you get off the bus at Lackland;)

you dont enlist and become an officer. to be an officer you have to have a bachelors and upon completion of OCS then you are given your comission as a military officer

I put in over 8 years enlisted as an Inventory Management Specialist, 2+ yaers as a Missile Launch Officer, and the last 10: years as a Reservist supporting the Civil Air Patrol (the Air Force's Civilian Auxiliary). Best decision I ever made was going into the Air Force.

It has already been said but my advice would be to find an occupation in the Air Force that YOU want to do and tell the recruiter. If you have to wait, wait. Ask a lot of questions. In most cases, you won't know what questions to ask. By all means reach out to others for input.

Is there an Air National Guard base near you? If so, that is not a bad way to go either. Ask the recruiter what your options are if you decide to go active duty later.

    Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I called my cousin and he wants me to come down and stay with him in Biloxi for a few days. He's a crew chief I want to say.
