Civil Air Patrol worth it?

So i just recently heard about the Civil Air Patrol volunteer opportunities..i live in the bay area and i'm possibly thinking of volunteering. I heard you can do things like be a spotter for pilots in search and rescue ops. and spotters while looking for suspicious activities.

Seeing as though i'm working my way towards becoming a member of law enforcement and i just like the way this sounds, i was just wondering if it is worth it and how possible it would be to be able to be a spotter or something like that?? Also what the process is for becoming a member?

Thanks in advance,

-George F-----g Washington aka Jud

I think that if you're trying to get into Law Enforcement, then all experience is going to be beneficial. Plus it can act as a feeler for if that kind of stuff is really what you want to do. I dont see how it's a bad idea unless it's hampering other important things in your life...

I did it back when I was in high school. It was kinda like ROTC in a way. Uniforms, customs and courtesies, then the fun came in for the exercises/drills. You'd use a receiver like dog hunters use to track down the black boxes from "crashed" planes. They made competitions out of it w/ groups from all over. They could also be called in to assist with real life crashes and all.

I recently looked into it heavily. It all depends on where you want to go with your career. It can and will become very time consuming in your life... I wanted to join it mainly for the flight time, but to be honest, you won't get in the air, even as a spotter, for quite some time. If you're in it for the long haul though,it could be a great opportunity.
