Civil Air Patrol worth it?

So i just recently heard about the Civil Air Patrol volunteer opportunities..i live in the bay area and i'm possibly thinking of volunteering. I heard you can do things like be a spotter for pilots in search and rescue ops. and spotters while looking for suspicious activities.

Seeing as though i'm working my way towards becoming a member of law enforcement and i just like the way this sounds, i was just wondering if it is worth it and how possible it would be to be able to be a spotter or something like that?? Also what the process is for becoming a member?

I think that if you're trying to get into Law Enforcement, then all experience is going to be beneficial. Plus it can act as a feeler for if that kind of stuff is really what you want to do. I dont see how it's a bad idea unless it's hampering other important things in your life...
