ok so i just got stationed out here in maui, hi. pretty sweet i know. but the movers came last week with my stuff. after they unpacked what they had, i was still missing 22 boxes of things ie; golf clubs, kitchen aid mixer, sub woofer for my surround sound, books. the list goes on and on. but the best part is we are missing all the nuts and bolts to put the kitchen table, chairs, a bed together and the feet to the love chair. also my wifes family has had this dresser that was made from some ships keel back in the day. it is something like 4 or 5 generations old. but we only got the bottom part of it. do you guys have any advice on what i should do?

Call the movers and ask them if there was a "split load". Perhaps they other part of your stuff is coming on another delivery.

all i can say is thats shitty that no one warned you before the move to take pictures of EVERYTHING out of the boxes to show how "clean it is" ie. damage etc... and then pictures of everything packed and to document all of it as well. I have heard sooo many horror stories about broken furniture and tvs....taking pictures with the date in the corner gives your proof that they damaged it. I can't say what you could do now though....wish I had an answer for you man.

yeah i was told to take pictures of all my electronics on but never though about taking pictures of my golf clubs or kitchen aid. but they do have a list of everything. but one of the big concers i have is that it just says "toolbox" in that toolbox i had 199 craftmans set, allen wrenches, and metric and standard wrenches. so who knows what they are going to do about that.

Also check your manifest/inventory paperwork. You will need to show your TMO/household goods office (so they can show the moving company) for verification and for insurance purposes. You are covered for quite a bit, so try to stay calm. Popping off at the movers in Maui won't help when its possibly the movers in your last place that eff'ed up. They will not want to pay so it may take a bit for them to settle but don't give up. That's what they want.

and thanks for your service Coastie!

This happened to me on a PCS move to Italy back in 91. They stole all of my electronic stuff and filled up the empty spaces with newspapers. I know the theft took place in Italy because the newspapers were Italian. I guess that is what happens when your stuff sits in Naples for six months while you wait for housing.

Anyway, no need to be upset with the movers. The government will take care of it. File a claim with your Transportation Office. Welcome to the perils of Military PCSing.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
FWIW ... I had a lot of stuff in storage on the island of Okinawa. When I was medevaced from RVN, my things were supposed to be shipped back to Bethesda. Well, all of that stuff (including ALL of my uniforms) got lost.

While I was an inpatient at Bethesda, I did not need uniforms, just had my PJs and robe (and later some civies).

Anyway, I turned in a claim for all my stuff and that claim got lost too and I filed a 2nd claim. Later when I was having my PEB, I was told to wear my uniform which I did not have and I caught hell.

Long story short ... filed a 3rd claim for my lost goodies and got the check for all my lost goodies (including uniforms) the day AFTER :D I was discharged on a PEB medical.

Had my check and my walking papers and went home with my $$$ and never looked back ... :D

The moral of this story ... file an accurate claim, stay on their azz and get paid for what they lost. Back then, you were on the honor system, you named it and they paid for it ... HOWEVER ... if they found your stuff and you lied about what you claimed was lost ... you were in trouble.

Good luck ... hope you find your things or at least get compensated for your loss.

PS ... that "lost stuff" does not evaporate ... it gets lost and/or stolen right off the bat (usually when someone peeks inside the shipping box or container.
