alright guys, i want to enlist for the first time into the marines. i am 19 turning 20 in july, and am currently going to community college. i am willing to take next semester off if need be. my question is this: recently i have heard that they are no longer accepting people that are not right out of high school. is this true? what steps do i need to take to for sure get enlisted? thanks in advance for you answers to my questions.

Check with any USMC Recruiting office and they'll fill you in on requirements and restrictions on enlistments. Good luck with your decision.

You better get moving. Since there are 17, 18, and 19 year olds enlisting, you will be considered "old". You better make that phone call now!

What, you think you're just going to get a semester off then go right back to your C.C? Plan on taking, oh, what, the next few years off? At least 1 for basic and everything.

Talk to a recruiter. The military is downsizing a lot of jobs right now. You'll need to take the ASVAB and see what you can get into, and if they even need you.

Go down to the recruiter, as mentioned above the military is downsizing. That is why recruiters want to see what you bring to the table typically.

If you want to join the Corps as a reservist i'm assuming if you want to continue you really wouldn't even need to take anytime off of school. Its called 92day reservist, you go to boot camp over one summer break and the next summer break you will do your combat training and job training. IF you plan to do that be very very very ogopen minded as to the job the offer you because I'm sure you wont have much to choose from if a choice at all. Also figure out what are the closest Marine reserve unit around you because thats where you will be based out of and you will be making frequent trips there, and lastly the reserver unit you want to be at will have a big impact on the job the give you also.

I didn't get one either. Don't they still give out 2k to people who bring in recruits if they finish basic and AIT?

Yeah....if your recruiter is honest. You're better off getting the rank as it comes to you. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

You can join the navy :) and I so happen to be a navy recruiter lol, talk to a marine recruiter, take asvab, physical, and then enlist, that's of you qualify mentally, morally and physically

Not sure if this is still the case but if you find a job you really like then don't back down from it. I ended up being motor t which isn't a bad job but I should have picked something else for me.
