So my DEROS window is coming up for retraining is coming up and I'm pretty much going for TACP. Im a vehicle operator currently and now that our convoy mission is over I need something to do. But I would like to see if there are any of you guys out there that can give me some advice and share some experiences if ya got the time. Pretty definite I'll get in too but there's the whole BS about put a bunch of AFSCs down so I'm also gonna just put down SERE and aerial gunner and some others just for show.

So let em rip, advice-experience, let me hear it.

    WOW.....

You need "something" to do? So you thought you would give being a TACP a shot...for something to do? Interesting.

So you are pretty sure you will get in huh? How's that? Have you taken the PAST yet? Do you even know much about the job? I am thinking no.

And for "show" you are gonna put down SERE, AG..and some others? How about putting services, finance...or something else, since it just for show?

Really...if by saying Germany you meant Afghanistan, then yeah, they are probably just hanging out waiting for your arrival into the community.

Sorry man, but you sound a little arrogant and smug. Maybe I am wrong..I hope I am.

www.google.com type in TACP or JTAC or ROMAD. Might get you headed in the right direction.

Wow, thanks for the "kind" words Taco Gunner. Trust me, I've researched it. Talked to my career advisor, talked to the prior functional and my buddies out here that are in it. I have done mock PAST tests, passed, I push myself to PT cuz I want to go TACP cuz it would be meaningful for me to do now that my current carrer field is slowly hitting the downward spiral now that we don't do convoys or anything anymore. As for the whole exercising bit I've got a bunch of buddies I talk to up there, of course there's plenty more in Afghanistan.

Mainly the purpose of this is I'm looking for a more meaningful career field and looking for more of a heads up from more guys. So what do you do Gunner?

Sucks to hear you're on the car list, I'm in one of them constrained AFsCs too but they're at least not getting rid of me. I've still got plenty of time on my current enlistment, just my career field isn't exciting anymore now that we're not at war anymore. I'm missing the glory days of convoys and gun trucks, although now I may have to slow it down now that just the other day I found out my wife is prego, lol. What do you do TacoIII?

I will give you some clues:

1.) I am in the USAF.

2.) My avatar is green feet.

That is all I am giving you....work on it.

if you want to drop bombs. you should be a combat controller. if your just a TACP you'll work with regular army units that wouldn't give you clearance to drop a bomb in a thousand years. and that being said our first combat controller shot more people then he dropped bombs on. but he still had some epic air strikes.

Definitely would live to have been a CCT, that's what my job choice was when I came in but got screwed over in my second week of basic when they didn't offer it up and got stuck in some broke chicks job I rode in on. So now 6 and a half years into the AF I don't think I wanna enter into a two year tech school when I could get into another career field like it with a much shorter tech school. Now if I wasn't married again and a kid on the way I'd have my ass already through the pipeline and on my way...but that's not how the cards got payed out.

yeah i hear that. while i was in the course for SF i didnt have kids. now i have 2 im not sure i could of made it with 2 kids lol. i just dont want you to think if you go TACP your gonna be dropping bombs like crazy. because unless you get lucky and work with a good unit. you will not be used like you should be.

Yeah and lucky for me my wife is also mil so she understands how the life works, that and she said hey gimme a kid and I'll be happy...go have fun. Alrighty! And definitely understand the whole ops situation, won't be dropping bombs unless the situation comes, that and the type of unit I'm assigned to.

The JTACs yeah, my buddy holds that qual and has called in a ton over his last deployment. Getting together this weekend so he can go over his stuff for eval and show me the ropes.
