I signed up for 4 years in the Army as a Tanker, M1A1 Abrams. Coolest vehicle in the world, hit a Cow at 40mph and it feels like running over a squirrel. I ended up serving 8 years and only played with the M1 like a dozen times. I was stationed at Fort Irwin and dressed up as a Soviet, worked with foreign equipment and never really got to do the job that I wanted to do. I was a moving Laser Tag target and we did war games every month, a lot more to it if anyone has been out the the NTC (Pre 2000) they will know.

I wouldn't change it for anything, I hated life at times and even thought of running to Mexico but i have seen and done things many will never get the chance to. I wouldn't say the Recruiters Lie,.....but they definitely don't tell you everything.

I would say go for it, try and pick a field that would help you in the long run. As a tanker I am not qualified for anything, most combat arms jobs are like that but being a Vet does have it's advantages. I would take the ASVAB and see where you score. Don't let them tell you that being a cook or parachute rigger is the greatest because they do have to meet quotas. I fell for "That tank is so High Tech, all you need to do is check the fluids and clean it", LOL I really was a gullible 18 yr old

Navy or AF I do think are the more High Tech branches, and the biggest thing that I have heard the Air Force guys complain about is working after 5pm LOL LOL

I would agree, ask more Vets. You'll get more answers that way.

Well just an update for everyone. I've got 5 pounds before i'm at enlistment weight so i'm gonna go talk to the recruiter in the next few days about getting ready to take the ASVAB and getting that over with. after that I will be talking to the other branches and deciding on what I want to do and then I will enlist hopefully within the next 30 days

Good job on losing the weight man. Keep at it and take your time. no need to rush. you'll have a minimum of four years to enjoy (or not enjoy) your decision, take your time and make the one right for you. Let us know if you need any more tips here or there when you figure things out. I'll tell you one thing, if you do Marine Corps Infantry, don't think boot camp is hard, wait for the fleet :D

I hate to say it but if you have to ask its prob not for you. Its by far the most difficult way of life you can choose. Its not a job it becomes part of you even long after you EAS or Retire. You will always be a Marine!!!

Rules of engagement today are weak, pretty much if you and your men are in danger or possible danger but any action you could take could possibly offend anyone within a thousand clic radius you had better tip toe and smile while you're doing it

okay not quite, but the way we're pulling out now, I'd say don't bank on pulling triggers

Get a real job in the AF, haha
