So we spent a few billion helping out Libya get rid of their dictator. How do they thank us? By killing the US ambassador in the Embasy.

    Thanks assholes!

IMO getting rid of the strong men in this area of the world is just going to make things a lot worse.

you do realize why he was attacked and who did it, right?

it wasn't the "rebels" we helped out.

We supplied Bin Laden with weapons to fight the Russians, Hussien to fight the Iranians, supported the Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot- tens of thousands murdered. We originally supported Castro. US foreign policy is a joke. Just one more example of the US trading one radical for another group of radicals, this is how we are repaid, we should just stay out of the third world. Most of the 9-11 hijackers were Saudi's but we need dino fuel so we leave them alone.

They were Muslims who were upset over a movie that ridiculed muhammad. Sounds like a good reason to start killing people right?

Good reason to kill people? no. This was a supposed al-Qaeda linked group that did the killing and not the people we helped.

I'm sorry but we helped out the rebels who were on "our" side. That's great and all but can they control the country? Egypt too. It could be very easy for more radical Islamic groups to take power in these situations. Which would be much much worse than Quadafi, Saddam, Mubarak, ect...

if that's the case, we'd have to police every country that isn't above Mexico, in western Europe, Japan, or Australia.

How so? Should have just left Libya alone and let them handle it themselves. Only reason we got involved is because Europe gets a ton of oil from there and France was leading the charge. We're still sitting on the fence in Syria.

because there are attacks that happen every day in most unstable countries. only difference is it's not killing Americans, so they never make the radar.

Right, I was saying that we should not be policing everyone. We don't have a good track record of it, nor do we have the resources. Now look at Libya for example. We don't know who the good guys are in most of these situations. And what's the reward? An attack on the embassy, a dead ambassador, and gas isn't any cheaper. When we step in we are creating a power vacuum. Radicals move in.

I'll go ahead and say the one word that sums it all up......"Religion". Not turning this thread into a heated discussion, but that one word is the reason why things are the way they are across that entire region of the world. Whether it is the hatred for another one or the use of it as an excuse to do the things they do.

More people have been killed in the name of God than any other reason ever. The US is involved in a "holy war" dosen't matter that the US calls it a war on terror, it is a war against radical Islam. They are commanded by muhammad to kill "infidels" so anyone who won't convert to Islam is their enemy.

Yes and no. More often than not it's economocs. In Iraq you had 2 factions of Islam. However the Sunni were the minority but controlled most of the money. Once Saddam goes down, The Shia try to get even.

Most of these "Radicals" come from pretty shitty backgrounds and are brainwashed. They hate us and whoever is in power because of what we believe, but mostly for what we have. If you had a stable govt that was fair, AC, running water, some luxuries, disposable income, health ect...you would be a lot less likely to be convinced to strap a bomb on your chest and blow up a shopping mall.

that doesn't explain the domestic terrorists that do it in the name of Islam...or the DC snipers, the Unibombers, the McFey's, the Sikh gunman, etc. I'm not by any means saying those were ALL religious, but since it is here, it takes out the economics and amenities.

There are always exceptions to everything, sometimes it is terror, psychopath, depression ect....Look at Bin Laden. He carried himself as an Islamic extremests to get people motivated under him and build this network to achieve his political objectives. In the end he was a fat old man in his room watching a ton of porn. Not the Islamic radical he built himself to be. But the ones that do a lot of the suicides in the name of Islam are usually poorly educated, economcaly distressed. They are promised gold and virgins but end up as roadkill.

Homegrown terror is a completely different animal. Potentialy more dangerous to US citizens and harder to detect. It will be really interesting to see where the Arab spring goes from here. A lot of these countries could turn pretty ugly for us. We really didn't know a whole lot about the radicals in Libya yet we supported them. Egypt is not looking good either. Thats a lot of oil that won't be in friendly hands anymore. It's just a big waste to get involved with these people. Buy the oil until its dry then leave them alone.

Bingo. get rid of religion and a lot of the worlds power grabs would go away or would at least be a lot harder to get going without the "almighty" backing them.
