And if you go up to them and ask them to adjust the uniform such as removing rank, or service affiliation you are usually met with hostility even after you tell them that you are in the service.

If any of you know Gy Ableman, this kid was lucky to leave with all his teeth intact.

From the get go, it was obvious this kid was not a Marine. He claimed to be a PFC (wearing LCpl chevrons) and could not explain what a PFC chevron looked like and then couldn't explain the NCO stripe on his trousers. He had a collar emblem in the middle of his barracks cover and his belt was sticking out. No ribbons or badges, his trousers were way too long, not to mention he had on Sketcher boots instead of dress shoes and a civilian belt. We found this out after we demanded that he take off the blouse and cover.

Turns out he bought the uniform from a surplus store and his dad is a retired Navy Chief. Reno is a super-pro military area and this guy was soaking in the atta-boys. Lot of posers out there, watch out! Know any recruiters in the San Diego and Reno areas, send them a warning to watch out for this turd."

While I appreciate those that are patriotic enough to even think of dressing up as a military member for Halloween and care enough about the troops to want to be like us; it truly is a damn shame that these douche bags pull this fake BS.

Realize that civilians have no idea what any of the markings on the uniform mean. To you and other military personnel there is meaning attached to every patch, pin, and marking. To the rest of us it's just decoration.

Don't mistake ignorance for intentional disrespect.

a baby "maverick" in a flight suit...

18 yr old or older wearing the uniform, but has not yet EARNED the right to do so...

younger brothers who have older brothers (or sisters - it is after all the 21st century)in the military, who wear bits and pieces of the uniform to maybe play paintball or something like that, or a wife/girlfriend wearing her guys leather flight jacket (or gore-tex), stuff like that, I'm cool with.

There is definitely a line there where people should not cross, common sense and good judgement go a long way. And for the guy in the bar who has to lie about being in the service, feel bad for that person, because he will never know the brotherhood of the military.

However, when i try to explain to them what the big deal is, not being a dick either, and they tell you to and i quote "go fuck yourself, i will wear what i want and I don't f*cking care who you are" That is where I loose my understanding side and want to rip his throat out because I tried to be cool and tell them why what they have is wrong and that if they come across the wrong person they will be eating dinner through a straw. There are a lot of guys who have lost brothers and would jack someone up for less. Let alone a family member of a fallen soldier/marine/airman/seaman/coastie see them and mess them up. Bottom line is I try to be cool, and get shit on for trying to steer in the right direction.

Yes it is illegal to impersonate a mlitary service member. it is a whole different thing that thestolen valor act... lets be clear here...kids and dressup, occasional uniform items worn hunting or in inclement weather...thats cool. but when they wear Camo utilities and other full uniform items, that is wrong.

Civilians do not know what the uniform is supposed to look like so for all they know that guy is inthe service and giving us a bad name! We have enough trouble with the 10% in our services that already make us look bad when they go home! ]

if you want to be technical, uniforms are not to be worn by ANYONE who is not in the service. even if you have gotten out. Only if you are retired can you wear them. there is an exceptioon and that is with the dress blues...funerals and weddings, but you must have served at some point. i forget the order..not sure if its thesame for other services also.

I understand being pissed at people who try to pass themselves off as having been in the service, that's really shitty. But if somebody is out on halloween and threw together a soldier costume for a costume party or whatever, and isn't claiming to have actually served, where's the harm?

I don't have a problem with it on Halloween, as long as the person doesn't try to bullshit.

You get paid to doing your job so don’t think your better then anyone us dude. Doctors take their steps as you put it just like you did and so does cops, fire fighter ect… I'm grateful don’t get me wrong but thinking people shouldn’t ware military uniform on HALLOWEEN is a bit cocky. If anything you should be flatter that people want to pretend to be you.

Get over yourself, its not like they are running around on some random day telling people they are in the military.

If you would actually read my posts you would see that it is not the HALLOWEEN people that I address. No where did I say I say anything to people on HALLOWEEN. I don't much care what people dress up for for HALLOWEEN. i was speaking of people who wear the uniforms not on HALLOWEEN. So does that clear up how i feel about HALLOWEEN?????

I have a Digi Jacket that I got from my younger brother, because I couldn't serve. I tried.. and He recently got out of the Army after being injured. I where the jacket with my Last name and the American Flag on it. no rank or other patches. My mother also served. so if someone came up to me giving me shit for Reping my Respect for my Family.. Then I would have a prob.

But I do agree with some of you. I do not think its right for people to act like they were in the service trying to get shit from people. thats just being a scumbag..
