I left the Misguided Children as a SSgt (E6), and upon separation, I was instantly promoted to Commanding General, 1st Civilian Division, Ft. Livingroom, Tx. A small, yet decidely important station between, El Quarto de Bano Naval Station and Frigid Aire Base, TX. It's a tough command, but someone has to do it.

Cadets are not part of the military, unless they are doing a commissioning program through their service in which case they are maintained at their current rank/rate under a non-compete promotion schedule. One of my Marines started his MECEP as a Sgt in 2010 and is now looking at GySgt. They don't get their commission until they graduate.

hello all. I'm not in the military, but this thread caught my eye. pretty interesting. but i do want to thank each and everyone of you for your service! those who serve do not get the thanks and respect that they deserve.

False! 18X's only get promoted to E-5 when they graduate the Q Course and pick up an actual 18-Series MOS. And it's not for pay purposes only...there is no MTOE slot for E-4 18 series.
