There is nothing I could ever do to feel like a man now after reading that. You cant just take a shot to the face and fly a freakin helicopter, and a fucked up one at that. This guy gets the man of the century award.

Damn, that's physical and mental courage right there!! Hope he makes a speedy recovery!

Why don't they put some protection on the cockpit windows? If he went down, can the A-pilot take over?

weight. heavier glass means less lifting capability it could mean the helicopters take one less person or fly 50 miles less may not seem like much but its enough

That placed is messed up. The stuff you see on TV shows nothing of what it's actually like. I still have nightmares about the 15 months I spent there.

Crazy story! I've never really had to worry about that flying in the C17 going in and outta there.

My Dad flies helicopters over there as a contractor and told me a pretty solid story. Ak round flew in through the avionics and hit him in the glasses! It lost so much momentum going through the avionics that it hit his Oaklies and cracked the lense and fell into his lap. Freakin nuts what going low and slow will do! I'll keep my ass at 35,000 AGL.
