Ranger school

Just wondering if there are any Rangers on here? I got an approved packet a couple weeks ago, and I am reenlisting soon for a RTB at benning. Not sure what the RTB will do with me as far as take me in as permanent party or a training soldier. Either way I am getting my chance to attend. I am about 8 mo from going down there it looks like from what my reup guy sent me. Still some advice for training this summer will always help. I pretty excited but more about going airborne, been trying to get airborne for the past yr n half with no luck.

 

Airborne! Delta 1st/507th, 2003 at 33 years old! I'm only a "Five Jump Chump", but it was the most fun I had in my 16 years with the Army. Advice, START RUNNING! If you can run, you can make it through Airborne School. When you get through with PT (the rock pits) and start forming up for your runs, fall in on the column/stick that's on the inside side if the track. It's the shortest distance around the track. Run distance range from 3.2 miles to 5 miles. They have to average 9 minute miles...plus or minus 15 seconds...that's between the time lines. So guess what, you'll sprint at times, then slow down to make the time. If you get three run fall outs, you're out. What they don't tell you, when you run from the barracks to do PT, if you fall out, that's one. Fall out on your PT run, that two. Fall out on your way back to the barracks from PT, that's three...your gone! Classes start with 400 plus, maybe 250-300 make it through the class. Some drop out, others get recycled due to injuries. If you get hurt, you've got 6 months to get back in with another class during the phase you got hurt (Ground, Tower or Jump week). After 6 months, you have to start completely over.

The 34' tower sucks if your fourth in the stick. The swing lander trainer sucks the most out of all the ground and tower training. The Sgt Airborne's just beat the hell out of you there. Never did the big 250' towers...they always break. If you get a Marine instructor, do not call him/her Sgt Airborne! Address them as Sgt or SSgt. They'll remind you.

Everything Philip said is correct.I miss those days, I graduated Airborne school in 95'. start running now!!!! Are you going to the 75th or one of the RTBs? I did 4 years at 6RTB started as OP4 then went to the boathouse, if you get an oportunity try to get station there, the area is awsome, Destin, Panama city...... 6RTB is part of Eglin AFB, FL. I am from 2/75, went to school in april of last year. I only have a couple tips, first off go before they let women in, haha. Ok on a serious note, make sure you can max the PT before you go down. Especially if you do a preranger course. Those courses will break you down (from what I heard of the 82nd's preranger course) So concentrate on being able to max it at your worst.

ALSO YOU NEED TO BE SEMI DECENT AT LAND NAV. It was honestly easy, you just have to get in the general area and then look for the hundreds of red lights just off the road and that will be your point lol

Be ready to do some of the most retarded shit in Darby. Its basically the worst phase I thought mentally. Because all they do is mess with your head. You will literally be standing in rocks for hours thinking why am I hear when I could be prepping for tomorrow.

Mountains is just a suck fest, the RI's chill out but they let the mountains do all the talking (Be sure you can Ruck like a beast) Being in weapons squad helping pulling the weight of all the Westpointers was a pain in the ass. But hey I got peered good because of it. (Oh yea dont be a turd, Or you will be peered out real quick)

Florida is a mind trip, your thinking you are so close to graduating, you relax. DO NOT RELAX. I had a patrol on the first day and thought I got a go. But I wound up getting 3 (other people who have been to school know what I mean by that) So make sure you maintain your discipline, and you will be solid.

All in all it was a good school to see what your capable of when the cards are not in your favor. Make sure you study up, get a Ranger handbook and READ IT! Learn the Ranger creed.

Airborne school was easy, its really not anything special! just be in decent shape and you'll do fine.

Well Thank you all for the words. It is official now, paper work has been signed. I good at pt, could always has more stamina with running but I have till Jan to work on it. Rucking is going good so far, I have heard of ppl taking alcohol to their feet to toughen the bottoms and ankles up. Is this a way to do so?

What That kinda tarnishes the reputation of Rangers. Too late now man, already reenlisted on wed. If any thing, grab my tab and then go selection and come back here to bragg. I am kinda upset to be leaving bragg, I love it here.

 

Yeah I'm sure it's still a good school. But this letting chicks in is rubbing alot of people the wrong way.

Is a mental and physical challange.

Work on your physical fitness and drive yourself past your edge.

If you can master the physical side, then the only way you will drop is if you mental yourself out of the game.

Remember basic, teamwork is the key.

Thanks, gives me so much pride. I still want the Tab, and it sounds like I could possibly be in one of the first classes with woman. I also feel like if I get a Tab I will be looked at in a similar way. Im not combat, I am a mechanic. Although I will pass to the male standards, I will always be looked at inferior also because I get a CAB not a CIB.

 

whatever dude... you will still attend the school and graduate at the standards that are required of you. be proud of your accomplishment (when it happens).
