Which Midland do you guys have? The 75 822 or the 75 785? or?
If those are working for you guys, I would rather not get one that requires a mounted antenna.

I dont know squat about CB's but have been reading some of the other posts. I mistakenly assumed, hand held = no antenna. Obviously thats not true. Most seem bent on mounting an antenna (rather then magnetic) and having it tuned and lots of trouble grounding it.

I found a used 78-822 locally for $40. I could probably talk him down a bit. What do you use for an antenna?

I'm also new to CB's I picked up an antenna from a local guy (in West Valley) that sells CB / Ham radio stuff out of his house (and online) he sold me on an Everhardt No Ground antenna. Talking to him about properly grounding the rail in our composite beds was going to be a lot more work than it sounds. From what he said these no ground antennas are great and were specifically designed for fiberglass vehicles i.e. boats & motor homes.

This is his website if you have any questions give him a call. Also I don’t see the antenna I got from him on his site, I may have gotten the last one. It was $36.95 and came with cable (specifically for no ground antennas) and a mount. If you talk to him just let him know you need an antenna for a Tacoma with a composite bed. You can let him know I refered you, I told him I would pass his info on to the locals.

    http://www.commproducts.net/category-s/76.htm

I also picked up a bracket from him that allows me to fold the antenna over when I don't want it up.

If you look in the pic you can see how the setup its in on the right has a place to plug into your cigarette lighter for power and then a hook up for an external antenna.

Nice. So "no tuning" needed on these then. What kind of distance have you guys seen on the Midlands? Lots of squelch?
The fold down clip is a nice touch but I do like the idea of the lil wil magnetic unit. Does the lil will fit in the compartment under the back seats? I have kids in the back all the time. It will have gum and shiz on it in a week if I leave it out. Found a lil will on Amazon for $30.

I hang mine off my shifter. It doesn't get in the way. If I'm parking outside I will tuck it under the seat away from prying eyes.:spy:

I'll take a pic for ya.
