drivers side rear corner. has top half about the roof and checked for continuity for grounds and all are good. new coax too. everything ground down so that there is nothing blocking contact of metals for ground and also use some contact grease for good measure.

I can get ch 40 dialed down to 1.1 or 1.2 but channel 1 would be about at 2.25. that is with the screw all the way out.

according to firestik and right channel radio i have an electrically long but physically short antenna which caused the big difference in numbers. so it is either a spring, quick disco, or extension. might drop the 5' antenna and go 4' firefly and get a good spring to run with it.

we shall see what happens this weekend i guess.

    ...too much shit to list.
The adjustment bolt on the top of the firestick is a standard thread pitch. Run down to the hardware store and get a slightly longer one so you can dial both channels 1 and 40 in.

I didn't go with a firestick because I sent my truck with someone to get the cb and they made an executive decision for a 3' hustler antenna. Hope it works well enough...

The back corner isn't an ideal location for an antenna on a 4Runner or any other full bodied SUV for that matter. You get a lot of "reflection" in the signal off of the body of truck that can cause interference. As much as possible you want your antenna in a location that the signal isn't "reflected" or blocked by anything along the vertical plane of the antenna. Roof mounted antennas are generally best as a result but aren't always the most practical. That's why you see more mounts on the hood or at the front bumper like mine. Those locations have less obstructions for the signal.

Good to hear. This is the cb I got. Seems easy to use, versatile and didn't have to worry about mounting it

I'd hard wire it to a nice external antenna. I only got 200yards maybe with mine.

Yes yes I actually was on the phone with firestik about this for a while. Real helpful guys there. It would be more of a concern with me if I had a lot of the antenna getting blocked. The top coil is a good 12-14" away from the body and is well above roof. WHole point for a 5'. I didn't want to go with a 4' because of how close it was getting.

    Here is for reference btw

    8abu7u4y_1858c7e1c3b4302e36abcf7053cad6e1e337c481.jpg

I am honestly amazed at how many guys literally plug theirs in and go with no tuning. Mine was way above 3.0 when I first clocked it.
