Anyone knowledgable about dodges?

I got a 1985 Dodge ramcharger that im planning on doing some serious crawling with in Moab. It runs great actually minus a little exhaust leak but the tranny wont pull to well. I have a spare tranny so im not worried if its blown but Ive heard that it may not be. Something to do with a timing chain or something?

 

I'm not a mechanic but i don't think the timing chain has anything to do with the transmission. ...

 

How does the fluid look?

Pull the pan see if you see any pieces. They are known for dropping parts in to the pan if the bands are not periodically adjusted. They will still shift to a point but slip.

Don't know of any chains in them.

 

Usually the band anchor and or strut.

 

Do the manual valve upgrade to the valve body .
This will charge the torque converter with oil in park and eliminate all kinds of application problems .
I believe in 85 , the New Process transfer case is gear driven .
