Nice bike. I started with a suzuki gsxr600. I loved that bike. My next one will be either a hayabusa or a harley.

    Nice looking bike!

I own 9 motorcycles and drive each one of them responsibly, except maybe the dirtbikes!

Someone told me many years ago when I first started riding on the streets, "RIDE LIKE EVERYONES TRYING TO KILL YOU!!". That has stuck with me for over 25 years now. I have never been down on the street, though I can't say that about the dirt:)

    Enjoy your new bike!

I ride to work most of the time on my 08 M50 Susuki. Have to warch out for the bear, deer, turkeys, not to mention the suisidal opposums and coons. Just realize, most people in cages will not see or even acknowledge you. Oh and please don't ride like an idiot on those bumblbee sounding crotch rockets, I see too many of them in too close of a call constanstly. Check out Motorcycle Journal dot com for ninja info.

Very true, I have the same mentality on this except I haven't been riding for as long you though.

OP - congrats and nice bike! I was about to say let's ride but just saw you weren't local. Don't skimp on the gear, get some good stuff it'll be a lifesaver. Enjoy it and respect it!

so true, even though you are in AZ, a nice riding coat, leather is best, but they do make some nice breathable mesh type ones also with protective inserts on the shoulders and elbows.
Also, its true, no matter how good you ride, the other driver does not care about you, had a guy cut me off taking a left, i bounced off his front bumper, was dressed in my gear, just got bruised up. Riding boots are a must, they saved my foot from being crushed between his bumper and my bike.
ride safe and smart, confidence in speed will get you in trouble fast.

Are you still active duty? Sign up for the 2-3(I don't remember which) day motorcycle safety course.

Nice bike. Smart starting with a smaller bike. I used to ride dirt bikes all the time and then graduated to a Yamaha R1. Sold that after about year and bought a Buell Lightning. Harley's version of a crotch rocket.

Thanks guys. I think i might just take that riding course as well. Just so i have more experience. I only have my permit now. Is it hard to take the test to get your endorsement?

Ya im trying to be as safe as i can now. Unfortunatly i only have a padded jacket, gloves and helmet. No riding pants or boots yet, im pretty low on funds. I will definitly look into some more gear tho.

The test is pretty easy. I've seen like 80 year old ladies do it. When you do slow turns it helps to drag the rear brake a bit.

Definitely take the Basic Rider Course. You get your endorsement at the end of the course and they teach you all you need to know to pass it. When I had my bike, I rode with a jacket, helmet and gloves at a minimum. The days that I rode hard or toured on the highways, I always rode in a full suit. I've been down a few times to know that I dress for the crash and not for the ride. Thank God I never crashed at anything over 55 mph. Wear your gear..trust me. Besides, other fellow riders will see that you are a responsible and safe rider...not a SQUID (Squirrely Kid)
