Not 100% sure yet, but I have been looking at this bike from a local dealer. It's a 2009 FLSTN Softail Deluxe, with a 103cid engine. Its all black, with a nice amount of chrome. 11k miles. I've got bank approval for it, just not sure if I want to take the leap right now while waiting on my sister to get approval for the house in Florida. Perhaps soon this will be my bike?

^ Dude you only live once. I've never regretted buying a bike. Even the Honda 90 was a whole lot more fun than sitting on the couch!:D

Thanks, I know. It's not a matter of wanting the bike. I want it! The issue is that we will be moving to Florida, and with the new house down there I am not sure if I will be able to make the payments.

Well don't dig a hole you can't fill back in. Wait and get one down there once you get settled. You're handy, you could also just get a frame and pay cash for parts and build your own one paycheck at a time. Then you end up with a bike YOU want, and you won't have to buy parts twice getting it how you like it. Don't know about you, but anytime I get a stock bike (or car) I end up with a heap of factory parts that go in the trash.

id wait till you move and look for something..also why buy from a dealership? youre paying a premium for nothing. personally the best time to buy bikes is when its cold and people are dreading owning a bike when they are making payments and dont want to ride lol(although in florida you can ride year round but a little drive to find a good price can save tons)

Yeah, I have a hard enough time doing the mods to my truck. Building a bike would take me a lot longer thank I want. haha. Good idea none-the-less! I am pretty sure I will have no problem affording to do this. I was looking at the numbers and I think I will have plenty of breathing room.

As for why buy at the dealer, well the one thing I can get at the dealer with the 2009 is an extended service warranty. 2 years, covers everything from the tires to the engine. Full roadside, towing to the nearest Harley dealer, and also hotel costs. I know a lot of people don't like the extended warranty deal, but as a tech, working in the dealerships, I have seen first hand where it has saved an owners ass from HUGE repair bills. I look at that as just another form of insurance. Sure, I haven't had an accident in close to 10 years, BUT if I were to drive around without insurance and were to wreck my truck, I would be screwed. So really the same thing here. Better to have and not need, than need and not have.

The other bikes I have seen that I like mostly have higher mileage and I have no idea how good of a condition it is in.

youd probably be better off taking the price of the warranty and putting it in an interest bearing savings account..and if you break down etc you can have access to said funds.

also you can probably buy an extended warranty on any used harley depending on the mileage...probably doesnt even need to come from a stealership

Sometimes we have to transport our bikes in the back of the Tacoma; If you need a solid mounting bar to do this, check out my post on this.

FZ09? That bike would be top of the very short list of new bikes I'd put money toward right now.

The black part is where the brake was clamped before, I just moved it up 2 inches. Does anyone think this is a problem or should it be ok to run like this?
