Cr125's are a whipcrack, hang onto that beyatch!!. lightswitch powerband,,you'll have nothing down low,,then KABOOM!!,,your doing the superman imitation trying to hold on.

I had a YZ-250 that was set up for desert riding, Steahly flywheel weight, 5.5 gal tank, Moose seat, reworked forks, Trailtech digital gauge for speed, distance, and ride time ,ect, ect, ect.

Jump/google online with your kickstarter question, your answer is out there easily. might be a simple, fix,,might not.

I would try bump starting it first, if it wont then pull the plug and see if its wet. If it is try a new plug. If it still doesn't start it could be compression or the jets could be pluged with varnished gas.

As some of the guys have stated, it could be a number of things.
    worn rings
    broken or stuck rings
hole in piston from leaning out
    blown head gasket
broken rod (not likely, and you would hear it clanking or it would jam up)

I'd probably be most concerned about broken rings because that can score the bore and a holed piston because that splatters molten aluminum into the bottom end and should be cleaned out. If it is a holed piston you need to find the cause (dirty carb or intake leak) since it could do it with your new piston.

Did you get the service / owners manual. It will tell you how to do the top end and all of your spec's including torque.

BTW, whatever is wrong with it, it will be cheaper than the same problem with a 4-stroke.

Tear the top end offa that sucker and let us know what it looks like.

I wouldn't hand your cousin a dime, until you figure out what is wrong and the cost to fix. it might be a mailbox holder.

Thats a good strategy, if it turns out bad, he benefits by knowing exactly whats wrong with it for free.

2 strokes are awesome and simple to work on. Top end rebuilds are a breeze, no valves, cam, cam chains etc. Just pull the jug and take a look.

So did you check for compression? this is what you do if you havent, remove the plug and place your hand/ thumb over the hole, if you can have somebody kick it and you hand does not come off the compression is too low.

Also if your compression is low you wont be able to kick it but you might be able to still bumpstart it if it isnt too low.

Check the basics first, you need air fuel spark and compression, then get fancy. Post up what you do and I can help you from there.

before you do anything get a can of ether, spray it into the airfilter and then try kicking it, if it doesnt start like that, move on to bump start.

If that doesnt work check to make sure you are getting a spark.

If you are then its compression if you arent its an electical problem.

Oh and it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace that plug, but check for a spark first just to rule it out.

yeah, and just FYI, the easiest way to do this is to have the plug out, but pluged into the plug wire. Then hold the electrode against the cylinder of the engine and have someone kick the engine over. You should see a small spark.
