Something nobody has mentioned: Doesn't matter how cheap you go, you probably won't save money.

The amount you save? Difference between the 16mpg your truck gets and the 70mpg your bike gets, in gas, for the days you drive it. For a long-ish commute, we're usually talking a few hundred bucks a year in gas saved.

Costs? A bike, gear to ride in, insurance, maintenance... I bet it takes at least 5 years to break even.

I did the math in another thread, but no, do the numbers, you don't save money.

If you want one anyway, sure, nothing wrong with that, but don't pretend you're saving money.

On another note, the same goes for people who buy another 4-wheel vehicle to "save money" Yeah, OK, buy that used corolla that gets 40mpg for $5k. (conservative numbers here)

You can buy a lot of gas for five grand, even at $5/gallon.

I did the math, sell Tacoma for 7500, buy e36 for 3 to 4k and get a bike with the remainder of the money.

Lol, well, I assumed everyone realized I was talking about purchasing a new vehicle in addition to your Taco, not selling it. :D

bought this back in 2008 when gas was close to $5 a gallon here. It was around $8,000 out the door, brand new, full warranty, insurance for a year, helmet, jacket, etc
gets about 50 mpg.. unfortunately its only a 2 gallon tank..

Yes, it is a 950 V-twin. The cost was within the budget, I bought it off of one of the Drs I work for so he made me a KILLER deal. It is an 08 model but only had 360 miles on it when I bought it. You would never know it is a 950 off road, but sure can tell it is a 950 on the interstate.

Hey Jlink, check out www.ADVrider.com It's a pretty cool dualsport site with a lot of good links. You should be able to get a larger tank for that if ya want.
