OP, stick w/ the Yamaha for your first new bike (your second overall, right?). They're powerful, dependable, beatable, replaceable and cheap. Falling on one of those hurts less than falling on a Ducati or Triumph.

That's a hell of a good point. Dude in a pickup ran me off the road while I was on the Triumph and the repairs to the bike were over $9000.

OOOHHH!!! Damn!! Should've been a totaled bike for that amount! Was it? Not to take this too far off topic but what happened to you and did they ever find the guy?

It was repaired. Had around $24k into it and it was pretty damn new at the time.

It was a low-speed 5mph accident. Guy put his left turn signal on, was moving left in the lane, and turned right as I was going around him on the right. Old guy that was unaware of which directional he turned on and was one of those people that swings left before turning right like the big rigs and buses. Police report had me at fault since I was in the shoulder. I'll never trust a turn signal again.

It really annoyed me because I had about 50,000 miles of saddle time at that point and I got my first accident 3 days after getting a new bike.

The good news is that the bike was repaired to new condition and I've put another 20k miles on it since then. Definitely a fun ride. :)

Daaaaamn. You're very lucky. I've been on motorcycles for almost 30 years and not only do I not trust anyone when riding, but almost die at least once on every ride due to other drivers. You have pics of your bike in the motorcycle thread??

    Alright, back on topic!!

I know! I generally don't go out for short rides as the roads are just a mess around here. When I ride I'll generally take some vacation time, pick a direction, and go. During my last 2 long rides I ended up in Oregon and Key West.

I'm wet. If I could get anybike it would be this one. No experience with it, but all the reviews I've seen in the past are good. Get it.

My wife and I both have BMW versions of the street fighter. Mine is the R1150R Rockster, with the oilhead motor at around 85hp, her's is the K1200R at 143hp. The longest trip we have taken with these is only 7k miles in 28 days.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just got word from my insurance company. I talked to them earlier this week, and they told me there was $4200 in damages and that my bike is worth $2600. . .

UMMMMM No thanks. I told them I wouldn't settle for that, that if they couldn't give me more then they have to buy a bike like mine for that much, and I will be glad to take it. Few days later I get a call back. They're totaling it out and giving me $4000 + paying up to $2000 in medical bills + offering me a buy back at $750!!! WOOOOT

Probably going to buy it back, and sell it to a buddy of mine for $1200. Sounds like a nice down payment on a new FZ8 huh? :D
