I have an XR400 that is road legal. Good power, easy to ride and great in the trails. I'm sure a DRZ would be similar.

I own both, an XT250 and a DRZ400 both bikes are great in there own way, the DRZ is way better for the freeway, personally I stay away from the larger dual sport bikes.

Yeah I wouldn't get a bigger dual sport unless it is a KTM. The XT and DRZ are great options. The DRZ is much more modern.

I was the same way as you. "All I need is a 250cc" Then after a couple months you WILL want something with more power. It's not fun riding around all day with the thing pegged out.

I have been into scoots since the early 70's and have ridden every size dirtbike there is. At present my scoot of choice is a legalized 2001 ktm 400 exc. It's light and semi road worthy. I would have to say that it is by far one of the best bikes I have ever owned. I agree 100% with what btuner says above. The 250's are awesome if all you plan on riding is tight woods, but spending a day doing service roads and pavement on a wound up 250 is gonna get old sooner then later and you WILL be looking for something bigger before you know it.
