First of all thanks for the compliments on my fatboy and truck. next...Back at ya!
About how to haul your Harleys in the bed :

# 1) VERY CAREFULLY
#2) DON'T TRY IT UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE
A) BECAUSE THEIR HEAVY
B) BECAUSE IF YOU PUT TOO MUCH WEIGHT ON THE TAILGATE YOU COULD DAMAGE IT. I KNOW BECAUSE I AM ON MY THIRD TAILGATE NOW, THANKS TO MY ROAD KING AND BRAKING TO HARD PUTS EXTRA STRESS IF YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT SPOT WHEN JERKING YOUR BIKE WITH THE BRAKE WHILE ON THE TAILGATE.

SINCE THEN I HAVE BOUGHT A FLATBED TRAILER ( WHICH ALSO DOUBLED AS A TOY HAULER, A.T.V.'S) SOLD THAT AND GOT A SELF CONTAINED TOY HAULER.TRANSPORTING BIKES AND CAMPING.

BUT IF YOU INSIST ON TRYING TO LOAD & UNLOAD YOUR BIKE, MAY I SUGGEST A LOADING RAMP THAT YOU CAN BACK UP TO AND RIDE ON IN ON A FLAT APPROACH.

WHATEVER YOU DECIDE, GOODLUCK.
P.S. I ALSO HAD A RAMP BRAKE ON ME WHEN I WAS ALMOST DOWN. THE BIKE LEANED OVER IN SLOW MOTION AS I TRIED LIKE ---- TO CONTROL THE DROP. ENDED UP ON ITS SIDE WITH ZERO DAMAGE! ONLY MY PRIDE WAS DAMAGED!

IN RESPONSE TO THE BACK OF MY TRUCK...IT'S A QUAD HAULER. THATS WHERE I CAME UP WITH MY USER NAME...YAMALARISHAULER. SHE RIDES A YAMAHA 350 WOLVERINE AND I RIDE A POLARIS I.R.S. 5OO OUTLAW. THEY ARE ONLY PRODUCED FOR FULL SIZE TRUCKS, BUT WITH SOME CUTTING, WELDING AND GRINDING IT NOW IS MADE TO FIT BOTH SIZES OF TRUCKS!

I have done many a 1,000 mile day on a twin cylinder air cooled motorcycle without a windshield. A full face helmet and good riding gear really helps however.

You wont be disappointed. If you're looking to get a new one this is the last year MoCo is making it. But you can find used ones all day long because of the stigma that a sportster is a chicks bike. I welcome any BTs to try and keep up in the turns

I want a Hog, going to start out small though when I do, so Sportster would be best for me.

Im looking at getting a 2001 sportster, and hualing it was the biggest ? Now Im all for riding that thing everywhere but I work on the road and need to carry more stuff along than the bike would carry. I work down south around lakes and durring the good weather seasons I would want to take the bike with me. The bike is over 7' and there is my problem, it would hang past the tailgate a few inches so i was looking at a piece of channel to put in the bed so with a front wheel chuk mounted to the front and the bike would be soppurted but hearing how the tailgates are, Is getting a trailor my only option?
