Bad battery or alternator? Or something else?

Ok so I went out to my bike (02 Ninja ZX-9r) yesterday, turned the key and got nothing. No lights no power to anything. I jump it with my truck and it fires right up, i let it run for ~10 minutes then pull off the cables, but won't run after I removed the cables... Shouldn't it continue to run? Is my battery totally fried or is the alternator not charging the batt properly? Thoughts?

start with a new battery. odyssey makes good ones for bikes. i dont think it would run without the battery... i used to hook my 4 wheeler up to a battery tenderer when i wasnt using it. they are cheap at wal mart, and it always fired right up when i went to take it out. battery was shit but the tenderer worked fine.

is your bike EFI?

Sounds like a battery problem. How long was it since you ran it last? You need to charge the batteries once in a while when storing your bike. You can check the alternator with a volt meter across the battery. It should climb from 12 to 14 volts when started, if it doesn't check/replace the alternator/regulator. (most bikes don't run without a battery needed to power the alternator field.)

I'm 98% confident it is your battery.

what's your battery voltage while running? i had a similar situation with my old 06 GSXR 600. faulty regulator/rectifier and burned two coils on my stator so my charging system wasn't functioning.

you could charge the battery up and it would run off the battery until the voltage dropped too low.

get it taken care of asap or it will take out your battery too.

Bike isn't EFI it's carbureted. Last time i ran it was like less than a week ago. I checked the voltage with the bike off its like 2 volts. I havent tested it while running though i think i'll do that next. Cant do anything today it's raining and i dont feel like getting shocked today. lol thanks for the input guys...

Stator problem or regulator/ rectifier. Check all connectors of these too. I had a loose wire inside the case of my LTZ, where it hooked to the stator, that caused this same problem.
