CRF250R into street legal?

2007 CRF250R. What would I need to do? Would this be fine?

i know in CA and NY they know by the VIN if its offroad only bike

 

oooh, there are tons of forums on how to street legalize. Definitely would be an AWESOME build, but definitely are a lot of legalities depending on your state.

Yeah, probably will not be able to do this in CA. Just my guess. I know for sure the exhaust is illegal. But in Georgia I have no idea, may need to call up a smog place or DMV or something.

 

the gears and motor will need some major work, crf's are geared for offroad racing, not for maintaining 65 on the highway for a period of time, the motor would most likley blow

well my dad made his 03 yzf street legal and basically made it into a super moto bike and after about 3 months of riding on freeways everyday 25 miles to work and back he blew his head gasket and the piston was shot

 

Consider a slipper clutch too. On road use and no cush drive is bad for the 'box.

IMO humble opinion, it's cheaper and easier to buy a big, fat DRZ and keep you CRF dirt-only.

 

Yeah I talked to a local dealer, and they told me about the same thing. Found a nice 2008 KLX450 on CL for $3500 hmmmm

good deal if it has less than 5k miles.

 

Some people have good luck with plated motocross bikes others don't. The oil capacity is tiny on a CRF450 or 250. Go with a KTM or DRZ and you will be happier. That said not much is more fun than a street legal 450.

 

Don't do it with a 250R! You will get bored in a second. If you're going to convert one start with at least a 450R or buy something already street legal.
