CD's. I want something tangible when I spend my money, plus, I don't have to worry about my music disappearing if my PC takes a shit.

CD's are going the way of the Vinyl Record, 8-track,cassetes, Reel to Reel, etc. Cd's are not indestructible and are suseptible to scratches/deterioration. Digital medial will last indefinetly, therefore i vote for itunes!!

Haven't bought a CD in about 8 years. Used to use Limewire but it gave me problems a lot. Primarily use itunes now because I typically only buy a song every once in a while directly from my iphone...usually after I heard it on Pandora...which is what I ues the most.

I will buy some on itunes but mostly I torrent. Artists make shit off of album sales. If you want to support an artist, go to their concerts and buy their merchandise, thats where they make their money.

surprisingly many artists are actually indebted to the record companies. The record company loans them the money up front before the records sell. My good buddy's brother in law is a country singer (Chad Brock) and told us all about the ins and outs of the music business. Its pretty interesting. Artists usually make about $.05 per record sold.

This depends a lot on who you are, contract, label, popularity, band or solo...lots of factors in this. Real hard to make a general statement about what an artist makes per album sale, especially with all the digital and RIAA licensing now. I have heard and read 10% going to artist is about average when looking at digital sales and retail sales.

That being said, I mix between itunes and cd's. Used to download a lot but it is more of a pain in the arse now than just buying, and the risk of virus' and what not.

I use a site called Alltunes . They are less than half of what iTunes cost and totally legal. By the way, Limewire and the ilk are full of spyware and trojans. We just identified a virus from a limewire download the erased all of the user media files. Pictures and all!

We have elevated musical artists to status of royalty and went above and beyond to recognize any "good selling" artists with more money per album than a normal human being could earn in a life time.

I don't know about you but I refuse to believe that a rap guy singing how he got hoes in all different area codes deserves to make more money than a guy who does life saving surgeries in a hospital. Heck that guy down the street from me can rap pretty well and he is only 18. Only difference between him and a rapper is that he is 18 and just graduated high school and going to college in fall. Too bad he will never make money as people he listens to on the radio.

So in simple terms.... I never supported music industry enough to want to buy stuff.

Some insight into the media industry:
    - The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is comprised of lawyers & lobbyists... that's it! They take a substantial amount of revenue, after all they have litigated against college students and single moms. Oh and they wrote our laws on Copyright. Imagine: you download a $0.99 song legally one day then illegally the next. Since they wrote the laws, you could be liable for up to $150,000!!! That's a more excessive penalty than any other law on the books (re: oil spills, accidental explosions, etc...) - basically 150,000 times actual damages is what they collect in 'punitive' damages. The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) is about even with the RIAA in terms of actions.

I obtain my music through whatever is the most appropriate avenue. :p

Pay for downloads, but from Napster. I hate HATE itunes. Don't use it for anything. Back everything up on an external hard drive as well. Use Winamp for playback on my computer and to manage my ipod. Haven't used any of that Limewire, etc. garbage in years. I'd rather not willingly give my computer syphilis. Plus half that stuff was terrible quality or labeled as stuff it wasn't. No thanks. I also get tired of repairing friends computers because they have so much junk on their computer from those kinds of programs haha.
