Hey folks, I'm not a Tacoma owner but I will soon be in the market for one. My son is close to driving age and he wants a truck. I am thinking about getting him a used Tacoma (not sure what year) but would like it to be Ext cab, 4x4, V6... these are the only specs I am concerned with so far as I am just learning about this truck.

I was hoping you guys could give me an idea of what's important to take note of when looking at a Tacoma. Is there anything on them that I absolutely want to stay away from? Is there anything I really should try to get on one.

I guess I'm just looking for some guidance on these so I can be educated when the time comes. Also if there is a thread that may answer these questions and more please direct me to it...

    Thanks for your help,

    Bryan

    Welcome!

If looking at a 2004 or older one, check for Frame rust.

First vehicle should be a 4banger. If I had a 6 or better growing up, I would have been in more trouble.

i'm only 18 and even I agree with this :) my first ride was a 95 jeep wrangler with a 2.5L i4 that was losing its kick at about 140k miles. Now i'm driving an 03 prerunner with a 3.4L V6 and i feel like i handle it much better after learning to drive on something a little underpowered
