Question Gnu Bee - change (5) lug stock wheels/tires

I just put my deposit down on an 08' Tacoma access cab. This is the first new vehicle I've had since that rusting pile of rolling junk I bought back in 1977 (Chev. Camaro). I should have my new ride by Wed. I live in Honolulu and gas prices are understandabley high(er). I got the access cab, V6, auto.,(gasoline will NOT get cheaper). The tires and wheels are standard 15" 225/75/R15, boring and look wimpy. Anybody know if there are any stock Toyota wheels in 16" that will fit , or what width and profile options are available for the wheels I have. I'd like them slightly wider and higher, but will changing from originals affect anything other than the speedo or void any warranties ? Any help ?

Welcome to TW.

I ran my current tires on my I4 Access Cab PreRunner. No issues. You should be able to find some +16" rims (4Runner, FJ, Tacoma TRD Off-Road [16"], Tacoma TRD Sport [17"], etc...) without any issues.

Matter of fact - There is a guy right now selling TRD Sport rims in the B/S/T forum for a steal!!! Here is the link...

The 6 lug ( Prerunner, 4Runner, TRD, 4x4, etc) whel wont fit your truck. You'll have to search around to find some 5 lug wheels. They are out there, and there are many to choose from. Welcome to TW!

He said he got the V6. That means he either got the PreRunner or the 4x4. Either of which is a 6 lug. He just got dumped with 15" wheels.

...but now I'm confused. They all come with 16" or 17"...

You sure? 225/75/15's only come on the 5 luggers.

I got the Taco base model with a few up grades. The stock wheels are (5) lug 15" steel.
Toyota does not offer any factory options or upgrades on the tires and wheels for the base model.
The tire store the dealer uses says to stick with Toyota steel factory wheels if they exist in 16' but I don't know what vehicle that might have been from , if any.
I can always buy aftermarket alloys but I'm wanting to go the economical route and go with factory steel, just don't know what that might be.
Actually just putting a slightly wider higher profile tire on the current rims would probably give me the visuals I want. Any suggestions ? Will I void my warranty ?
Can the speedo be calibrated to higher profile tires ?

You can find inexpensive wheels. Use the internet, it can be helpful.
Here is Tirerack.com listing for your truck. They will even ship to a local garage.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resul...utoModClar=2wd

To save money you could get 15" wheels in a style you like & use the original tires.

Welcome to TW

I have 20" Einke with BFGoodrich G-force tires. These tires are only good for 40,000 miles. Luckily this set I have gotten 45,000 miles so far.

Good luck,
Sean

Speedo calibration - no problem.

Toyota OEM wheels 16" - Camry, Solara, Sienna, and Avalon all have available 16" wheels that will fit the Tacoma 5 luggers. I suggest checking back spacing first. You may need a small wheel spacer on the Sienna wheels.

Cheers!

BTW - if you got the 5 lugger, you did not get a V6. If some one told you that, then you have been had.

Changing the tires will not void the warranty. However, any damage done to the TPMS sensors will not be covered by Toyota unless they put the tires on. I had this trouble with the new tires I put on with Discount Tire.
