    Heeeyyoo,

Just picked up my first toyota/truck today from a used car dealer. I lurked this forum a ton before i bought it so i figured you guys could have a look. Its an 01 stepside sr5 2.7 with auto trans. Ive only driven it the 60 miles home which was mostly high way, but so far so good. Runs like a champ and the engine doesnt feel underpowered which i was a little worried about... Its got some scratches 2 go to the metal, but is free of dings. Any suggestions on if i should fill them in? Im worried the exposed metal will rust and spread.... Anyway heres a few pictures:

welcome! Get some touch up paint for those scratches, it won't look pretty but it will stop rust.

Welcome to TW. The truck looks great (aside from the fact red is my favorite color).
The stepside looks good, I don't see many stepsides in my neck of the woods.

Thanks for the quick replies and welcomes! My problem with just applying touch up paint is that the 2 scratches to the metal already look a little weathered... Should i have it buffed by a shop and painted, or is that something i could do myself without making it look worst?

If your really concerned with looks then yes, I would take it to a shop and they can make it good as new. I personally would just hit the scratches with some sand paper (only sanding the scratches) and put some touch up paint on it.

I think its more of that "just bought it must make everything perfect" bug haha. I i may try to lightly sand and then fill the scratches in with a touch up pen if i can find a close match.

get the paint at the dealer. Tell them you have radiant red. My truck got shot with a bb gun within the first month of having it. I have no idea who did it or why anyone was shooting bb guns in a parking lot lol. I had to chip off the cracked paint and fill it with touch up paint. It looks pretty horrible but no rust over 2 years later.

Thanks i read the stepsides were rare, and i was looking at about 5 tacomas at the dealer. This one caught my eye, and was probably the cleanest in the lot so i had to pick it up. Plus i was driving a red honda prelude stick before so the transistion was nice hah. Cant say the ride is as smooth but i think the tacoma has already won my favorite ride.

Is that molding on the lip of the hood? Adds a very stylish contrast to the overall red color.
