Hi there. I am new to the forum because I do not (yet) own Tacoma. I am coming to the group to find out of if ther are any known problems with the particular year/configuration that I am considering.

Before I get started, let me say that I did some searching but all I came up with were tons of "Hi, I'm new to the group" with the "welcome to the group" responses. It's nice to know that the group is friendly, but not terribly useful. On to my questions.

I am considering buying a 2008 4 door Tacoma. It's 4X4, TRD, V6, 5ft bed. I am most interested in the 4door/V6 aspect than the 4X4 (I have a dedicated trail rig) but will admit that the 4X4 will likely be used from time to time ;-)

So, are there any 'gotchas' that I should be aware of? Any premature wear items I should investigate? Problems with 4X4, transfer case, bearings, seals, brakes, engine, etc...?

Thanks in advance for any honest feedback you can provide.

    manual or Auto...

the manual has a throw-out bearing problem while the auto has some other problem that I don't really care about since I have a manual

It has the 5sp auto and has 36,000 miles on it. It seemed a little weak in the acceleration dept; I expected a bit more. Perhaps it's normal?

I really prefer the older body style and just came across a 2004, double cab, 4x4, auto, TRD, SR5 that 's really clean with 99,000 miles.

What are the major pros/cons for each?

some of this, a little of that
My dad has a 2004 and I had a 2000, they are freaking tanks, other than usual maintance they never gave us problems, well except for the chirping clutch but oh well. My 2008 is an auto, it gets better milage than the manual and it really smooth. If you feel it does not have the get up and go for you put your foot in it a little, trust me it will go.

I bought it. I officially own a 2008, double cab, 4X4, automatic Tacoma.

    Thanks for the input.
