new guy asking for input

Hi all!
Im new to this forum and new to Tacomas. I've admired them for years and now at age of 51, looking to buy my first new truck and I've settled on a Tacoma.
the advice im looking for is, what type of options to get? Im getting the 4 door, 4x4, auto and either the off road or sport package. I do most of my driving on road. Only time im off road is hunting. I live in mid missouri so no rough driving. I've also go a place in the middle of nowhedriving. Some rough driving there, mainly fire trails.
I want my Tacoma to be ready to handle rough fire trails but also be a nice ride the other 95% of drive time.
any thoughts, ideas would be wonderful!

I think the Off Road looks better but I am biased!

I will be getting 4x4 and leaning toward off road package. I will admit I like the looks of the hood scoop on sport even tho its just for looks. I have no need for a 6 cd changer. I own 1 cd.

go with the quad cab 4x4 offroad. the sport has a hood scoop, and although it is kind of a cool look, it is completely pointless

 

My '06 Sport is new to me. I do enjoy it, though I've only had it a month or so. The only real difference is the limited-slip rear versus the locking on demand rear. I also like the "scooped" hood on the sport, though some members don't like the fake scoop. The locker in the rear could be quite helpful, but unless modded, only functions in low range. I also don't know much about the limited-slip, but there appears to be a difference between the older style (pre '09?) and the new style. I think it has something to do with the traction aid.

Hope I haven't confused the issue as I'm new to this forum also. I've found this forum to be quite helpful, so far, in where to spend my money on modifications and repairs etc.

Go with the DC 4X4 off road.. Then but some 5100s on it and some bigger tires for a little more ground clearance.

 

Yes, thanks. I like seeing others trucks and what options they went with. I want to get brush guard and tube running boards.

 

If shopping brand new I'd probably get the Offroad. The way I've heard it explained is that all of the 4x4 Tacomas these days have electronic "limited slip" rearends, so unlike previous years where you had to choose between a limited slip or a locker, now you get the limited slip action and a locker. Looking at new, 2011. Spec sheet I got on the truck i want (off road) shows "automatic limited slip differential"

 

Sticker price of $31,904. They offered it at invoice price of $29,557. Im holding out, looking to get them down a little.
