Hello all from the new guy in Alaska. I know what your thinking, and YES its freaking cold up here!
I have been trolling the message board for a while and finally decided to register. I got rid of a crappy old Ford about two years ago for a brand new Tacoma and swear I will keep this think till it falls apart.
I have managed to get a 3" lift on it and I blacked out my emblems last week, but I have lots more planned for the future. Thanks for posting your mods, it really is usefull to see what others have done and give them a try. I think I might do the black headlight thing this weekend, but I am a little worried I might jack stuff up.

What's up Nate. I'm Matt I'm from Alaska too and i have my all of my lights blacked out. If you're still thinking about doing it and are worried about messing it up, just hit me up I can answer any questions. I saw your Air Force emblem so I'm assuming you're on Elmendorf? I'm on Ft. Rich

    Thanks for the welcome guys.
Hi Matt, yep, Im in the Air Force, I work over at the Elmendorf Hospital in the ER. I think I am about to go grap some black paint and get to work on the lights. It is pretty strait forward? Everything I have read says to put them in the over at 300 degrees for 10 minutes and just pull them appart. Sounds easy enough as long as I dont fall asleep or something while they are in there. I have some silicon to help seal them back up. Any other advice?
    Thanks!

Welcome to TW. I loved Alaska. I spent a few years next door to you at Fort Richardson back in the 80's.

    Hi Randy
Ft Rich, Elmendorf, its all one big base now. Joint Base Elmenforf-Richardson (JBER). Thats what the high ranking commanders keep saying, still seems like two separate bases to me.

Welcome from Pennsylvania, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
I feel better owning a 2011 Tacoma knowing someone from Alaska owns one too!
I am worried about the extreme cold winters in issues of not starting in the cold.
When I watch "Ice Road Truckers" on the History Channel I always notice everybody in Alaska is driving a Ford Super Duty diesel.
Its been really cold here since Dec 1, right now the temp is 3 degrees and expected to go down to -5 tommorow night and the long term forecast say its going to be cold till mid February.
I have the option of the 130 amp alternator as part of the tow package, and that helps it start in the extreme cold weather.
Congradulations on your new truck, it was the best choice you made and don't get harrassed by the full size truck guys, just feel sorry for them knowing how much they have to spend on gas.
