hello Tacoma World,

I live in the Carson forest in northern NM. If I had known more about NM adobe I might have chosen not to live here. I am glad that I didn't know how difficult it was to drive in adobe because it is gorgeous and peaceful here......

I live off 7 miles untended of dirt roads. I bought my Tacoma 2 years ago to get me home from work after sinking my rwd truck sideways in mud up to the middle of the driver's side door, climbing out the passenger window and walking 5 hours home in 12 inch mud ruts...

I love my 09 4x4, 4 door but I still need more off road capability. (I probably should have gotten the TRD package) Thus here I am researching what I can do to increase my truck's ability to get me to and from work. I have BFG mud terrain tires...nothing else.

I am a 57 year old mother of three grown girls, know nothing about trucks although I have learned ALOT about off road driving in the last 5 years.

Below are a couple pics of my truck on good days....bad days, all you can see are the window wiper tracks!

7 miles of dirt everyday! Man I wish I had more dirt road around my house.
Bigger tires might help but u will need to lift. Also a winch would be good, that's
my opinion.

yep...mud roads knocked some sense into me quickly!

 

If you mean locking differential, then yes. There are a few options, the best in my opinion being an air locker from ARB. It is selectable just like the factory TRD Off-Road locker. It is expensive however.

A good shock setup for cheap would probably be Bilstein 5100's. The fronts are adjustable up to 2.5", perfect for adding larger size tires.

You can mount a winch in a variety of ways also. If you choose to keep your factory front bumper you can get a sort of grill guard that will mount a winch. Or you can go all out and pick up an entirely new front bumper, which will be much stronger however will be heavy and expensive.
