New member with an idle problem!

Great site! Glad to know there will be a place to find help.
After my first oil change, the check engine light came on. Easy reset but then out of nowhere, my truck is racing at idle. Also, depressing the accelerator does nada.

I did pull the cover off the air filter just to see how the mechanism sealed but triple checked to see that I put the lid back on correctly.

Also, did some fuse pulling/pushing after lost taillights during a trailer light wiring install. Took a minute to realize that the fuse box in the engine compartment was NOT the right one. Just pulled fuses and pushed them right back in.

Any clues?

Fixed? Could it be?

So I mentioned the oil change. Seems I might have been a quart or so short on the refill. Not the easiest dipstick read I've ever seen! But alas, the idle is fixed. Still have the check engine light on, but idles perfectly (and revs appropriately). I'm a BMW guy, so this is really messing with me!

You need to see what the code is. If you don't have a reader, then go to AutoZone and have them read the code for you. After you get the light read, come here and post it up and we can help you then.

Trailer lights: most likely you wired the lights wrong or you have a bad ground with the lights.

How did I reset the light earlier?

Does the 'problem' resolve and then the light goes off?
Wiring harness went on very easily. Hopkins kits are extremely easy to install so I know the light are right. I have two boats and one had a bad bulb that was grounding. So doubt it's the taillight circuit.

Though the light may be off the problem code is still stored in the computer. You don't want to drive the truck too long with a CEL on/stored because you don't know how serious the problem may be.
