Hey all, just wanted to post up a quick intro. I just got my 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport double cab short bed a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it.

I got it to replace my daily driver/camping & hunting rig, my 2002 Jeep Liberty, when it's engine gave out at 231,554 miles. Now, I will admit I am a loyal Jeep guy, having owned many and still owning the Liberty (planning a re-build) and an '80 CJ-5 which had been heavily modified. So, why did I go with a Tacoma you ask.

I drive 110 miles daily to and from work, over mountain passes that can get nasty in bad weather, so I needed a comfortable, dependable daily driver which got respectable mileage and durability to go well over 250,000 miles. I needed somthing with room enough for the wife, friends and the dogs. I needed a good truck or SUV that I could load down with camping and hunting gear and head out into the mountains on non maintained fire roads and get away for weekends, so it had to be 4-wheel drive.

After some research & shopping around I found that recent offerings from Jeep/Chrysler left me uninspired. I did find that when it came to durability and longevity, Toyota has a fantastic reputation. I found the Tacoma by accident, I was actually looking for a used Jeep SUV or a Toyota FJ. It had only 69,000 miles, was one owner and well taken care of (I dont think it was ever taken down anything worse than a dirt road) had good ground clearance and met all my other requirements. I liked how the wheelbase and short bed/double cab combo just looked proportional and "right". After having an SUV for the lasy 7 years I liked actually having a truck bed. After I test drove it I made the deal and got it for 5,700$ under Blue Book. That even made my wife happy.

I am planning on a few upgrades, when free time and funds allow, such as more rugged bumpers, winch and maybe even air lockers. All the mods will be geared towards making it more dependable & capable out in the wilderness. Now, I cant wait for spring turkey season so I can load it up with camping & hunting gear and get it out into the mountains. From what I have experienced with it already Im sure I will not be dissapointed.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Crawled up under it an it looks like the PO had at the least installed a small leveling kit to the front. Either way Im already loving the truck ,but my CJ-5 will remain my hard-core trail rig as I dont want to abuse the Tacoma.
