Hey everyone...just wanted to formally say "hi". I have been lurcking for awhile and finally picked up my 03 Taco SR5 TRD this weekend. Only 71k miles on it, and got it for a great deal i think. Any thoughts on my first mods? I was thinking a brush guard and some better tires. Here are a couple of pics breaking in the truck. Enjoy

Welcome to TW! Nice truck, although I may be a little biased...

As for first mods, what do you want to do with your truck? If you want to start hitting up the trails, many people recommend getting sliders first.

What kind of tires you got on there now? If they aren't A/Ts or M/Ts I'd get a set.

LOL thanks for the advice and warm invite guys. I am comming from an EVO X, and a long line of turbo cars, so i am ready to handle the mod addiction. The tires on there now are Futura Scambler. They are par at best, and the tread life is almost done. I have a few trips to take in the next month, and once that is over, i am getting some much more aggressive tires. How much of a lift do you recommend for a daily driver as well as tires? I will have to research the deck plate mod. I am familiar with the gray wire mod and that will be done soon. Look forward to many good discussion and hopefully wheeling with a few of you.

    getting there....
the deck plate mod is basically an airbox mod........and its dyno proven to yield between 5 and 8 hp to the rear wheels. you can tell a good difference with it. on the tacomas 3.4 v6............it was a consistent 5 hp addition. as far as lifts..........you can get yourself a good 3 inch toytec lift, for right around $300...maybe less, with coils up front and an aal for the rear, and you will have a good ride. if you want.....spend the extra money and get some tc uca's.....they will correct for getting your alignment back to where it fully needs to be.:)

before further mod advice can be given...what are your intentions with the truck? how much offroad use will it see and how "extreme" will the terrain be?

if youre going to be seriously wheeling the truck i'd suggest buying tires and armor FIRST and then maybe lifting it a little bit

if youre not going to spend much time tearing up the trails hardcore...go on and do lift/tires and then armor as you see the need for it

Thanks for the link Tigerfan...i replaced just replaced the stock original paper filter yesterday, and i can already tell its breathing better. The Deckplate mod is definately in the near future. As far as my plans...i want to be able to do some moderate off roading. I am not looking to do anything crazy at the moment, but i would like to be able to go out with my Jeep buddies and keep up with out making a dedicated trail rig. I figure maybe a 2-3" suspension lift to give me better articulation, with some frame sliders and more aggressive but still streetable tires. I am moving to Kansas here soon so i am not sure how the trails are there. I know here in Arkansas we have the superlift off road park which i hear is awesome!
