picked up the prerunner at 5 last evening. drove off the showroom and made it about 100 feet and thought i heard a knock or click or ? stopped and turned off the radio and a/c and listened. was a light knock. sounded like 1 cylinder. i drove another block or so and went back to the service dept. it was still knocking. turned it off and went inside to ask for a tech to listen. we started it up and the knock wasn't there. he said it was probably piston slap which was common on tundras but hadn't had any complaints on tacomas. said to not worry. (right!). i drove home (15 miles) and parked it. started it this am and had a light knock until it reached operating temp and it quieted down. i know about piston slap from being a gm service manager for many years and it doesn't worry me too much but i'm wondering how normal this is on a fresh truck with less than 50 miles?

Not familiar with it but sounds sketchy. Bring it to the dealer again. Let it cool down before going in and try to repeat the issue.

Welcome to TW. Engine ticks are a common complaint. Here is a link to a few treads found by using the search tab. Check them out, you may find one that matches yours.
