Got the green light from the wife to go ahead and get a new Tacoma;) I am looking at a 2012, or pretty close to it if I get a deal. The tacoma will be pulling a camper, hauling dogs, kids, boy scouts, deer, dirt, boat, to name a few so a 4 door long bed v6 is likley the best fit

Will likley see some mild off road, but wont be a true wheeler..... at least not while I have a payment

I am coming from the dark side of jeeps so I am not as familar with toyota specs. When I was talking with the guy at the dealership yesterday he knew nothing about specifics other than what was in the brochure

Are there any stickys, websites, threads that detail the different trim lines? Axles, lockers, tranny differences etc? The dealer didnt actually know what a locker was let alone if it came on anyother models than the TRD

Since I havent driven off the lot yet, I would love to know if there are things I would really want vs things I might not care enough about to spend the extra $ on.

Welcome  the TRD off road comes with the locker and A-trac but does not come in crew cab long bed. The TRD sport comes with a hood scoop and the crew cab long bed but no locker. I would get the base model, SR5 4x4 crew cab long bed and install lockers later. I don't know if that helps any.

I was thinking of the SR5 in the long bed. It still has an LSD which should help keep me out of trouble, and I am sure I can get a front recoveryhook aftermarket

I know the TRD off road has the upgraded shocks and larger tires. Are there any differences in the engine, transfer case, tranny or axles?

How about the years? Any big differences or upgrades from the 09,10,11,12 outside of the fascia and the new spiffy radio? Anything to watch out for?

Its amazing how few low mileage tacomas are out there. The dealer I was at had only two used ones. One was a 09 with 90k miles and the other was a 2011 with 20k that was only 1k less than brand new. That must speak to how much people love em

Thanks for all the greetings, I hope to be around for a long time

    Thanks
